Dave
Apparantly, there are rumours that the RS4 will be available with both the 420bhp V8 petrol and a V8 diesel! Probably the same unit as the 4.2 A8 version.. so we're talking 320 bhp!
Golfer
Roll on the diesel 4.2 S6 i'll have one tomorrow
Chrisg
I'll go for the RS4 diesel -- ought to get 30 mpg !!
Dave
Although the bhp will be down on the petrol version i think the torque will be huge
Woppum
You wont get a yowling exhaust though!
Dave
True, but you will get a nice black plume of smoke on start up

[/ QUOTE ] OK, but I could live with that Can't see the point of a manual box either ? Suspect that Audi haven't got one that would take the torque....... but hey , probably only needs first and top
BenjaminTDI
They will probably uprate the BHP on that engine. I would say it will be more like 360-380. If they can find a clutch to use with all that torque that is. That is going to be a real monster.
jimdiesel
The highest rated manual transmission that is available at the moment is rated at 600NM. So it would have to be an auto.
Golfer
Is this actualy going to happen?, or is it a joke
Chrisg
Been mentioned in various places over the last few months. Just because diesels have had a poor image in this country in the past....... very different in europe I don't know what Quattro GmbH policy is but I do know they are self financing and need to show a profit..... Personally I do not wish to live with 18-22 mpg , even for that sound track, but I could live with 30 + mpg and effortless torque ( especially as I'm planning to be a man of leisure in the next few years )
sitas3
would be nice to see a Diesel RS4 but in reality is this really going to be made?

The 17/20MPG does frighten me off a bit and fuel price predictions are gloomy ( going up), the torque factor is great on these high powered diesels, they realy give that "shove in the back" feel. gizze
I reckon it would outsell the petrol easily, bet it would arrive with around 380bhp and think what it would be like once tuned!! I am like alot of other people in that I really couldn't live with 16mpg, I am getting 30mpg out of the 535d which is DMS tuned, and this will cost me around £450 a month in fuel I guess, but I wouldn't want to be paying nearly a grand a month just for fuel. gizze
Should be 344bhp and 506lb ft of torque, but not had it on a rolling road myself, yet! But it feels really quick, you get that diesel surge that really pushes you along nicely, and that is what would make the RS4 D so special. Golfer
Should be 344bhp and 506lb ft of torque, but not had it on a rolling road myself, yet! Thats a whole lot more grunt than my A8 TDI, it must be in the mid too low 5's 0-60 time?. I just don't like the interior of the 5 series, does nothing for me. I would have mabe gone for one but for that. 650I looks nice, fuel economy will become more of a factor as this year progresses.
gizze
0-60 is just under 5.5seconds. 0-100 on the A8 4.2TDi (not seen figures for a mapped 3.0tdi) is just over 17 seconds and just over 13 seconds in the DMS touring. http://www.letstorquebhp.com/ The interior was the only thing putting me off, as I have said on numorous occassions, however now I have one it is really nice, makes my A6 feel very dated, would take the A8 interior over it still though!
