I'm not sure if they can legally do this, but the 2 dealers I rang for quotes I asked for a price first, and then asked how much the oil was. One dealer was ok, the other (which I went to) started making noises and I said they wouldnt get my business if I couldnt do it.

I'd like to know what was done for 1600 too! Dont tell me he let them do tyres? My first service (19,000) including VAT and some wipers (couldnt be arsed to argue) was £285.

The killer was front discs and pads, for which they charged the princely sum of £1049 (discs are cross-drilled, but still... EEK2.GIF). I also thought £200 for spark plugs was taking the proverbial.

Edited to add: I have just realised that I never mentioned that he has an RS6, hence my apology for posting in an S4 thread. I still think it's pricey though

Been at the dealers this morning for the RS4 launch (wow... my S4 now looks like a 2.0TDI !)

Anyway, back on the oil front... the CHIEF tech in service said "0.5l per 600 miles is the Audi spec and we have plots of cars that use as much, not just the 4.2 v8, 1.8T's also. Strange thing is you can have two engines with consecutive serial numbers and one will use oil and one won't"

so it looks like i'm stuck paying for oil regularly.... :S

Mobil 1 in Costco is cheap at the moment, can't remember the exact price, but something like 4L for £20. 169144-ok.gif

That is a good price!

I'm about to order a case(18x1) of ELF Excellium ldx 0w30 (503.01)

Should come in at considerably less that the £288 odd that BP and Audi would want for Castrol SLX 0w30........ wink.gif
