MOSE
I dip in and out of it from time to time mate, just depends on what type of mood I am in. Still yet to get into the 30s club mind, have been very close but not close enough

Rustynuts
Next time we go on holiday, I'm gonna try for the 75mpg club. Can I have 3 memberships to this club if I do it? Lodders, are you thinking the same as me, there's something wrong with your car.
UBM
Nope - only if I had the cab back! Got 38mpg average from the last tank...
MOSE
[ QUOTE ] Which car are we talking about here Mose? [/ QUOTE ] In the MOnaro. I average between 21 and 24 at the mo, but a good motorway run will get me towards 28. I need to use 6th gear more, but it gets too noisy
loddrik
My case is, I have a 245bhp diesel, with an auto gearbox and I am driving mostly in town, I suppose with the performance on offer, I should expect it (be in no doubt that it is f*ckin' quick) and I suppose that under the same conditions a petrol would struggle to better 20 mpg. On the rare occasions that the car does any distances, the car will return low 30's.
Rustynuts
Oh, I know. It's sooooo hard not to press the go pedal all the time, and the auto box won't be doing any good. Like you say, petrol would be even less mpg.
cruiser647
Yep, I have heard that the BMW 330d with a autobox, can be a thirsty beast - for a diesel. But with that performance, as Rusty says - you are doing well! I must say, I would only get a diesel with an autobox too - not a fan of manual cars for an everyday driver. gizze
If I reset the obc on the 535d (dms tuned) and take it for a real pelt round the twisties I can average high teens, however no matter how I seem to drive it ends up back at 29.4mpg after a couple of days which is awesome. So I don't think about sonsumption now, just enjoy. So glad I didn't go for an S4 or similar, as I would not really be enjoying it putting £250 a week in it. garcon magnifique
gIzzE - I've been trying to find out what sort of mpg the 535d gets after being fettled by DMS. At least a year off yet, but a DMS 535d Sport has definitely established itself on my list of possibles. To still nudge 30mpg average is superb! (Though I guess that depends on whether your average driving is more rural than urban?) I've read alot about the Sport suspension/run-flats - is it as harsh around town/bumps etc as some have said? gizze
29mpg is what I am getting from my everyday driving, this consists of cold starts, down the dual carrigeway for 6 miles and then through the city, and the same back home again. This is probably the worst type of driving for guzzling fuel there is to be honest. Today I had to do some crusing round so I thought I would reset the jouney computer and see how I did with a bit of steady driving, still going into the city and along the dual, and having a bit of fun down the back roads on the way back, but not cold starts and stopping again before it had warmed up properly, anyway, I turned the computer display off until I got back so I wasn't watching it and after 32 miles it was showing 41mpg. If you are doing combined driving 36mpg is very achievable without having to think about it. Crusing at 90mph gives nearly 35mpg. I only got 32mpg from my 1,9tdi avant over December and Jan and some people get 45mpg out of theirs!! The runflats are a little harsh, depends what you have come from, I always put 18" wheels with low profile tyres on my cars anyway so don't really notice to be honest, I was expecting it to be terrible and have been plesantly surprised. gizze
Also I got just under 32mpg in my 320d auto touring over 25000 miles, so lossing 2.5mpg but gaining 300nm of torque and an extra 194bhp seems well worth it to me!
garcon magnifique
Sounds like a very similar commute to mine. I'm definitely hooked on the idea of one of these beasts. Not supposed to be changing mine until another 20k miles or so... must work out how much the extra 5mpg or so would save me!
