NewNiceMrMe
I do find this rather amusing....because I wonder if the BBC realise that publishing that article is going to lead to every motoring enthusiast within reasonable distance hunting down the roads and trying them....!!! I spotted it first thing this morning and had already thought of plotting a little Penrith trip...

I remember in convoy to the A4 meet last year with BumpRT and A_S piling into the first corner and the major tyre screeching, while I was hard on the brakes as I knew what was coming up! Chris_B
Ah, the A157, also listed as one of Tiff's favourite roads IIRC. Right on Cadwell Park's doorstep, and there's some other smaller, less-frequented roads around therethat are also great fun in a performance car... BenjaminTDI
I was half expecting to see a few of the roads around here listed, but thinking about it they are not that bendy, they are twisty but not corners you have to slow to 30 for on the whole. I think it's important for these safety surveys to look at what is out on the road, mud for example which makes roads that weren't otherwise slippy, very dangerous indeed! fjfr
[ QUOTE ] The study, which was carried out by Continental Tyres, found that by driving at 30mph on the road the driver would experience the same lateral forces as he or she would while driving around Brands Hatch or on a rollercoaster. [/ QUOTE ] Right. Arrange a meet there!

I like to go right across from Burgess Hill to Winchester at least 2 or 3 times in the summer. BUB
garcon magnifique
I can report that the A157 is indeed very bendy. Though the A1031 north from Mablethorpe (which was shut) to Grimsby was also rather bendy and I thought more fun. Although maybe that's cos I was stuck behind a Daihatsu Charade doing 25mph round the bendy bits of the A157. The A631 through Gainsborough to Louth could be a great road too, if they hadn't just slapped a 50mph limit and specs cameras on it.

Great road if you aren't stuck behind anyone else. [ QUOTE ] maybe that's cos I was stuck behind a Daihatsu Charade doing 25mph round the bendy bits of the A157. [/ QUOTE ] Which is why it made a great alternate home commute run at 3am. Apart from the time I got stopped on Louth bypass for taking a roundabout a bit too fast. That buggered up my late-night work-to-home time trials. So, did you visit the area specifically, or are you often in sunny Lincolnshire?
simonb
"Tracey Hyem of Continental Tyres said: "At 30mph in an average family hatchback, some British roads are so bendy they exert the kind of forces you would expect on a racetrack." [/ QUOTE ] Aye, that's the one. It was going dark, and I was being followed by a local (*) presumably on his way home from work, but clear in front. Not too keen on those big irrigation ditches on the outside of bends... * - at least I assume he was local, seeing as he was in an old, shagged Astra and I couldn't shake him off! [ QUOTE ] So, did you visit the area specifically, or are you often in sunny Lincolnshire? [/ QUOTE ] A specific visit, to sample the roads and go for a (very brief!) stroll down the coast. Rounded off with a Burger King in Grimsby and a cruise home along M180/M18/M62.
