CarMad
I had a look what I would get a few weeks ago and a would go for a nice BMW 5 series. I could have picked up a 535I for sub £1000 without too much trouble. It would be quick, handle well and would be better than most around the ring I would have thought. BenjaminTDI
I'd try and get hold of a 535i That would be my weapon of choice. I'd probably spend a fortune getting new tyres etc.. and making sure its all safe though.

rhyds
Jag should be a laugh, my advice would be to try and find one with as little engine electronics as possible i.e. carbs or k-jetronic style mechanical injection so there's less to get you stranded
theduisbergkid
Well you know my weapon of choice. Here's a few others I considered ... Porsche 944 auto (would be a heap of crap for a grand, ideal for scumball !) Porsche 924 (pretty reliable and good fun but slow) 7 series beemer (blacked out windows for the dealer look Any v6 Alfa (155 or 164 would be great) Lancia delta turbo (not integrale of course), 100% sure to break down though. We sold our 525 with fsh recently, that was about a grand, we should have hung on to it ! Ich bin einer Scumballer !
Soapsuds
i dont think anyone in their right mind would consider an Alfa would they!!!

rhyds
Why not go for a reall scrapper? a £200 hot hatch would be great fun around the ring, and if you go for somthing european and it blows up, you'll be able to fix it "en route"

jsheldon
What about an old S Class Merc, you could get a real nice one for under £1k. A mate has just got a 420 SEL (long wheel base) for £900 and its a minter. They soak the miles up easily. You could probably find a 500 or maybe a 560 if you are lucky. Soapsuds
its ok looking for a £200 scrapper, but you cant get on the ring with anything like the slightest fluidleak!! Which i think is fair..... might be just a little TOO cheapo... I'm looking around £500 - £700 realistically, with an MOT to cover the trip. Big merc is a good shout! Hey - i'm supposed to be shortening this list, not extending it!!!
