[Audi A3/S3] getting serviced - dealership or arnold clark

Hi All

You will have to excuse the slight "innocence" of this post - but I have never actually had a car serviced in the UK (always had cars registered/serviced in Germany).

So, my question is:

My Audi A3 (1.8T Sport) is coming up for its 90k service, should I go to an Audi dealership to get it done or opt for Arnold Clark's 41 point service for GBP 69 (http://www.arnoldclark.co.uk/Service/fixedprice.aspx).

The car has always had regular services at a dealership so far.

Does anybody have any experiences/opinions on the above?

cheers

Personally, with a car on that sort of milage I'd be looking in the yellow pages for a local independant Volkswagen/Audi garage. I've a few horror stories after taking my car to an Audi dealership in the past (grinding the surface of my rear discs to stop the duff brake pads from squeeling was another classic...)

Independant garages often have better mechanics and take a more personal approach to servicing.

As long as the garage you take it to has the correct diagnostic tools, a VAG-COM, you should be ok.

Personally I would stay well clear of Arnold Clark. A work colleague and also a good friend have both had disastrous dealings with Arnold Clark quite recently. Basically their Head Office have blatantly refused to assist and both cases are in the hands of the Local Trading Standards.

Albeit it wasn't Audi (it was renault), I still wouldn't let them loose on my car if they were prepared to do it free !

Good luck an Audi specialist sounds a good option after reading a number of threads over the months.

One of my friends bought a Renault and had approx 20k miles advertised and dash showed this however when he went to pick up the service history a couple of days later it was over 60k !! Apparently the clock had been changed and showing on the Renault computer but not updated. (This was a Renault dealer as well !!).

They refused to do anything apart from a free tank of fuel. Hence Trading Standards now dealing

My other friend who i work with had a problem and took it back within 3 weeks of buying the vehicle to get sorted under the 'warranty'. She was advised that it wasn't a necessary / essential part so she would have to pay for it.

You only need to search the internet under "Arnold Clark" to see the recommendations - NOT !!

Good luck but stick to an Audi Specialist or trusted / recommended garage.
