jeff
I have been having some recent incidents (this morning, for example), when, after raising the roof, the driver or passenger door window will not close completely. The roof locks into place, the windows go up, and then one pops down half-way, as if it encounters a blockage. I have succeeded in getting the window closed by opening the door, putting up the window, then closing the door. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Since it is intermittent, I'm not sure if I should bring it in to the dealer and have him claim that there's nothing going on.
Ari
Yup, got it, complained abot it, had nothing done about it. It is as you say totally random and can affect different windows, sometimes more than one at a time. Apparently Audi TT's have a similar thing. Other thing to be aware of is closing the door and the window not "jumping up" to make the seal, leaving a slight gap. first time it happened to me I was cleaning the car....! Mac
Same here. That and the all windows down button leaving the drives side rear quarter closed Still, its an Audi, what can you expect? Quality?
advantige
Had this on and off, randomly but overall seldomly during one full year experience now, however always and only the right hand side rear window (which is not my driver side ) and only when using the four-window button windows up. I could always close it with its dedicated button though. Hasn't happened since they fixed (again) my roof..... as of yet Mentioned it once to the dealer when getting the roof fixed. They never experienced it though and hence had no chance to identify the root cause...
neilp
Below is from a post on the UK TT forum where they've been trying to get Audi to accept the dropping windows as a problem for ages; "As a reminder; if both doors are shut with about a 1sec delay then after both windows have returned to their correct location, one window will drop by 2cm. This, in my and many other's opinion, is a security issue with the TT, and can invite people to cause damage to the interior of the TT. For about the last 2 years I've been talking to Audi about this, following on from the great work that Paul_W has done... and duplicating much of it. My theory was that the more people who complained to Audi the more chance of getting it fixed. Every couple of months I would call Audi Customer Services and see if there was any progress. The last time I called them was before Xmas 02 so a month ago I called them. I was asked to get the car in with Wayside in MK. It went in, they needed to order new "modified window motors". It went in again last Thursday and I've just got the car back. I must admit, I thought that Audi UK was setting Wayside up for a failure as I didn't believe they would have fixed this issue... well they have. Sort of. In the carpark I tried to get the window to drop... it wouldn't happen even after about 10 attempts - wow, they have actually fixed it! Then I started the car to go home... and the bl**dy window droped by 2cm!! Couldn't get it to go up, wen't down OK, but not closed. I had to turn the engine off and turn it back on again before the window would close completely. Went back into Wayside and demonstrated the issue to Brian - he's going to talk to Audi tomorrow as am I. So, the security issue appears to now been fixed, (hopefully) I no longer have to worry about leaving the car with the window open. But now I have the issue where the window will open slightly when I start the car (after leaving the car when both doors are closed at the same time). Definatly an improvement.. but not perfect. A pity that it's taken almost 2 years for this progress though." Might be the same issue......
SteveCab
it seems the windows dropping on the cab is nothing similar to the TT problem, the windows on the cab drop as you wind it up, it seems to hit the roof then bounce back again, almost a kind of safety feature as though someone had got their hand stuck at the top then it drops to release it
Ari
Yes, agree with this. It is as though it has got out of sync with the actual position and hits the top and as Steve says thinks it has hit an obstruction and immediately "auto-reverses" and drops a good four to six inches. neilp
Having had the problem on a TT and on the Cab I think it's the same. The problem seems to relate to the motor driving the window past it's normal stop position, whether this is being done manually by the window button by the driver or automatically by opening/closing the door. in either siutation the normal 'safety' feature is invoked by the over-run causing the windows to drop a few cm's. But it could be completely different.........
