rozzerfodder
Guys, can anyone recommend a company providing GAP insurance and give me an example of cost. Picking the car up Wednesday (damn you weatherman)and want to take this cover out.
TP27
VW's own Gap Insurance throught the dealer isn't too bad, think it's £6 or £7 per month. It's really the first year of ownership you want to cover the most....
stevie_d
Yeah, I used VW's gap insurance, I think it was a £300 single payment for me, which is nothing really. Especially if you write it off on the way home and lose £k's
rozzerfodder
Err, I thought it was later on when the difference kicks in. Perhaps this is the RTI (return to invoice insurance).
stevie_d
Sorry, think I may have confuzzled you with my post. GAP insurance will pay the difference between what your insurance company pays for the car and the invoice price of the car. This is why I always ask for a higher trade in value, rather than a discount on my new car
rs32
You can also go for "Replacement" GAP which gives you a cash payout of the difference between Insurer's payout and replacement cost, including any future price rises. This includes all options added to the vehicle at new, if you are like me and with Admiral (they don't include options in their 'market value' assessment) then this seems well worthwhile IMO. cost was <300 quid for 3 years covering up to 20k difference. see linky and choose the Replacement Gap option. PeterS
Don't forget that most insurance companies will pay out on a new for old basis in the first year anyway if the car is too badly damaged (if you're the first registered keeper and cost to repair >60% of new car IIRC), so you only really need GAP for years 2 onwards. That's my understanding anway, but I bet you can't buy it for that period though Peter
Rayza
I paid approx £200 with http://www.click4gap.co.uk/ as dealer was charging £400!!! It is RTI

JonnyGTi
I notice that click4gap will not pay out if your car has been modified outside of the manufacturers specifications.....so if you intend modding your car at all I'd check your gap policy carefully ! VincentVega
Pardon the daft question, but what's the difference between "replacement" and "invoice" GAP insurance? Is there any advantage to having one kind over another?
stevie_d
I think invoice pays to the invoice price and replacement pays to the cost to replace (i.e. including price rises). May seem like a small difference, but it could be several hundred pounds and will only cost you an extra tenner or so.

[/ QUOTE ] ....But are they stating that they won't pay out anything at all or that they won't cover the costs of replacing the mods you have done to the car? - I suspect the latter is the case. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, the insurance is null and void, and the car is illegal to use on a public road.
RedRobin
.....But if you have declared all your mods (as I have), your normal insurance is obviously not null and void.
JonnyGTi
Looks like you're not covered full stop with ClickforGap ? Section 1.1 of the Terms and Conditions state "Vehicles which have been modified in any way from the manufacturers Spec…" are not covered.
silentandy
Of course if your car gets stolen then they're not going to know if it was modified or not are they lol
