P1155 - MAP Sensor Circ. Short to B+

I have a problem with my car going into limp mode after a short drive, generally either under load, going up-hill or when I put foot down in 3rd.

I have a 2001 VW Golf Est. 1.9 TDI (90bhp)engine code ALH.

Have had the car on the computer and it came up with code:-

P1155 - Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor Circ. Short to B+.

I have an idea that the turbo maybe at fault here (i.e overboosting) but do not want to jump to conclusions. Could somebody help out with a list of possible causes that I may be able to rectify myself??

I had a different code reading previously and I located a loose pipe from the turbo. Fixed this and thought I'd saved myself the cost of a new turbo fitting, but 2 weeks later and it goes into limp mode again!!! Different fault code!!

Any help much appreciated.

Id be supprised if it was the turbo, they should last the cars lifetime. although alot of that is dependant upon how the drivers treats the car...do you let the car idle for a few mins after use to let the turbo cool? This is essentail to ensure that the turbo gives you the best life it can. 169144-ok.gif

Its possible that there is a leak on one of the hoses somewhere. check the DV too.

There is no DV on a diesel!

Is VAG Diagnosis term for short to earth. So the ECU is getting a reading of 0v which is impossible as a sensor working values are between 0.2v and around 4.9v so if the ECU gets a reading of 0v it means a fault in the system not a very low reading.

So i would suspect a faulty M.A.P. sensor or a fault in the wiring harness.

I take it that the MAP sensor is located underneath the car, at the very front of the drivers side? Is this correct, i.e behind the headlamp at drivers side??

I am pressuming that this is where the pipe leading from the turbo goes?

The guy at the garage said it was a common problem with these cars as the turbo's wastegate is inside a sealed unit, apparently the turbo cannot be cleaned or serviced. This unit can easily get coked up with carbon etc, because the car hadn't been thrashed enough. The car has done just over 100k miles.

Is there a possiblity that the pipes leading to and from the turbo could be clogged up, or even the air filter?

Any more ideas before I have a mess around??

The MAP sensor is located in the top of the intercooler(behind the drivers headlamp) This just measures the boost pressure, and the ECU is saying it not receiving any info from this sensor so you must replace it or sort the wiring fault

The wastegate wouldn't cause this code, and has nothing to do with that code.
