Merlot
I don't want Chris to keep the W12 as I fancy buying it! In fact I've got a Q7 coming in July...so perhaps a deal to be done?
Chris_B
[ QUOTE ] Put simply Chris, if you buy a Q7 everyone will hate you. If you can live with that, then it's probably the right car. [/ QUOTE ] Doh! Actually, the way the media picked up on the "4x4" thing just goes to show what people's attitudes are like, and I do begin to wonder if a Q7 would be a target for "eco-warriors". [ QUOTE ] there are alot of far more interesting cars out there for that kind of dough. You know, ones without Audi badges. Second hand Maserati Quattroporte anyone? [/ QUOTE ] Miles away from the nearest dealer, I still find the looks a bit controversial sometimes, and with the reputation that gearbox has? No ta, even though I did consider one new instead of the W12. I did look at the search on the TG website, and picked cars in descending price order, and assuming that the kind of discounts I'm expecting aren't available on other brands, cars that come into the similar price bracket all pretty much seem to be Beemers, Audis, Mercs, Jags or Range Rovers, with a very few exceptions like the Maser and the odd Noble (no, a Noble isn't on the cards). A buyer lined up for the W12 would let me twist my dealers arm a bit more as they wouldn't even need to advertise the car. I can tell you, it's a lot of car for the kind of money it will go for; the W12 spec in that model year was fairly good anyway (lower final drive ratio, sport suspension & seats, nav, Bose, 6-CD, LED running lights, leather pack 1), but it's got a lot of extras on it: RS 6-style wheels, rear & rear side electric blinds, 2nd 6-CD, TV, interior & exterior LED lighting pack, rear climate control, rear seat heating, load-through with ski bag, bluetooth prep, voice command and alcantara/leather seats. It's got the service & maintenance plan on it (now no longer available) which covers scheduled service and brakes, wipers etc, to 60k miles if I remember rightly, but that would need to be verified with Audi. Merlot
Chris Can you remind me of the exterior/interior colour? Thanks Plus does it have ISOFIX in the back?
Chris_B
Pearlescent black exterior, interior is black/black leather/alcantara with birch grey inserts. Sorry, no isofix.
Merlot
Thanks for checking - nice colour scheme. My youngest would appreciate ISOFIX. Best of luck with the decision.
P_G
Chris, stick with the S8 option, may cost more in tax etc but would be worth it. Having driven the RS4 saloon twice now I'm still not convinced it's that much better than a slightly modified S4, so when you put a few toys on an RS4 cab and it sets you back £60K+ the S8 seems a better deal for your money. Chris_B
[ QUOTE ] Thanks for checking - nice colour scheme. My youngest would appreciate ISOFIX. [/ QUOTE ] I've just got off the phone to my A8 Advocate. He says ISOFIX was standard on A8s of that model year, and I'm just stupid for not having noticed (he didn't say that last bit, but it's obviously true!). He also says the Service and Maintenance plan covers the car up to 75,000 miles or five years old, whichever comes soonest. I've just been out and felt in between the rear seat backs and base, and there are square metal loops in there - I assume this is ISOFIX?
Chris_B
[ QUOTE ] Chris, stick with the S8 option, may cost more in tax etc but would be worth it. [/ QUOTE ] I could reduce the tax burden a bit by dropping ceramic brakes - £70 a month back in my pocket. However, if I do that I might be tempted to add a few things back in like heated windscreen, rear heated seats and perhaps the DVB TV tuner, so Gordon would get some of that back anyway. I just don't know if I'd rather have ceramic brakes or some comfort gadgets. Heated windscreen is the biggest one - scraping ice off windscreens is a chore I could live without. Ceramics might be (very) nice to have, but to be honest the £6k extra on the list is not something I'd ever expect to see much back for, as I doubt I'd be keeping the car the 200,000 mile life of the discs, and I don't know how much more the pads for it will be, and I doubt I'll see an extra £3k on the residual after two years, although I'd be happy to be proven wrong. I think the Q7, RS 4 or S8 question has been answered though, and the result is S8 or something else, but I don't know what that something is yet. I'm still negotiating with my dealer. Watch this space.
Merlot
FWIW Broadspeed are already doing £5.5k off S8.
Chris_B
Always handy to know, if only to blow the usual "undiscountable car" argument out of the window. I'm looking at a deal of sorts...
Chris_B
And the deal is done. The S8 is undiscountable, but there are still deals to be had if trading a car in... Oh, and the voting ended up pretty close, with the S8 in 1st place, the RS 4 next and the Q7 trailing a bit. Thanks for voting folks!
Will22
[ QUOTE ] The S8 is undiscountable [/ QUOTE ] That's not what I was told when buying the S4 Cab last week. Plus Audi will also give the dealer a sub when taking the S8 in part exchange.
Chris_B
I think it's a switching numbers thing. I have a "price to change" that equates to a good deal, but the figures are just presented in a certain way so that the S8 won't have any discount on it. Now, if the dealer loses money on passing my W12 on, that's a different matter...

Chris_B
[ QUOTE ] Good choice Chris, get yourself to a TSN NE meet with the new motor soon, I want a peek. [/ QUOTE ] I'll be up in Newcastle on the last day of July, either in the W12 or the allroad (depending on how much luggage I'm taking!) to get on the ferry to Norway. It might be the S8 if it arrives early, but I doubt it very much, and I think I'll hang on until September 1st to get the new plate on it. I ran the idea of coming up to a NE meet past the wife, and she seemed to think a fair tradeoff would be me paying for a night in a posh hotel somewhere before or afterwards, so it might happen. Will22
Mine will be a cash buy, no trade in and I'm looking at a 8-10% discount. I'm going to wait for the new reg aswell. What spec are you going for?
