Dump Valve / Turbo Whistle

When I first test drove a GTI about a year ago I remember noticing a slight whoosh dump valve type noise and a bit of turbo whistle in the demo car. As far as I know it was totally standard. Noises were not very loud but definently there. Now that I have my GTI it does not make any of these noises, maybe its cause I am running her in and keeping the revs low. So guys do your cars make any of these noises???

When i test drove the GTI i could only hear the whistle with the windows down and under heavy acceleration. The car hadn't done too many km's though, so maybe it will losen up with time.

I know people have mentioned their exhaust notes changed (for the better) with time, however i haven't heard anyone mention the turbo noises.

If those noises mean a lot to you, there are some cheap mods to accentuate them wink.gif

Because the turbocharger is relatively small it spins-up (whistling noise) almost immediately ( that is why it is difficult to detect)... you can hear it if you want, just play with the throttle. It also sound like it has adump-valve of sorts alreay built in.

must become louder with time. Mines coming up to 12k and i have a lovely burble from the exhaust and with the window down a whistle from the turbo with a very noticable dump valve sound when changing gear or when pressing the pedal and easing off. People often comment on the dump valve sound when they hear it from outside the car.

Turbo whistles etc seem to be slightly (but only very slightly) more audible after a few thousand miles and also on a cool crisp day. I would assess any cheap mods very carefully before getting any. A proper Air Intake would be a better mod.

I dont mean to buy a cheap dump valve, i am just saying a dump valve isnt an expensive mod in the scheme of things.

I can't find the link, but you could always buy that chavy dv simulator jump.gif

I read the instructions and basically it's a 130db speaker that makes a "woosh" noise whenever you change gear, the curious thing was that there was a warning which read "do not operate within ten feet of open ears"...So you can't drive the car if it's fitted, hehe...
