Chipsaway - Recommendation

Hi All

Just a short post to say how pleased I am with recent service from Chipsaway.

I live in the Manchester / Cheshire area and have recently purchased a mineral grey S3.

Prior to the work, all 4 17" Avus alloys had kerb damage - all 4 on the rims (on 3 wheels, quite noticeable, the other wheel only minor) and additionally 3 had noticeable kerb scrapes on 1 or 2 spokes (down to the metal from what I could tell).

There was also a noticeable scrape on the corner of the rear bumper - 3 deep scratches down to black primer, each of which were around an inch long and 2-3mm wide. Plus general scratching around this area which could not be polished out.

The cost to fix was £160 inc. (£25 per wheel + £60 for the bumper). The work took 4 hours and was undertaken on my driveway.

The result? Well, I'm pretty fussy about paint work etc and have a good eye, but all I can say is the job looks perfect.

The guy did the wheels on the car just doing the affected areas (some places remove and respray, maybe chaning the colour slightly in the process). Looks original and brand new. You simply cannot tell.

Now I'd had wheels done by this guy before, so I was pretty confident about his abilities (although my previous ones had rim damage only). But I'd never had body paintwork, so was pretty dubious about how much could be done outside my house for £60 on the corner of my rear bumper. I figured it may not be perfect, and if worst comes to worst I'll just get the whole thing resprayed at a professional body shop.

Well, as with the wheels I'd challenge anyone to tell using a naked eye in daylight at any angle! I have seen paint jobs from professional body shops where you pay a lot more and you can still tell if you look hard enough (sometimes you don't have to look too hard at all). No overspray, no colour difference, no difference in finish to the eye or to the touch, and no more scratches. And none of that fume-y freshly painted smell you can get if you leave your car with a bodyshop for a couple of days. Plus he never needed the car keys at any point, so there was no chance of someone going for a quick spin "to help dry the paint".

So, very impressed as you can tell.

Would recommend to anyone.

He even left me some touch up paint for a couple of stone chips.

I suppose the proof of the pudding will be how well the finish wears - if it starts to wear noticeabley I'll be sure to post back. All the guy said I have to do is keep the wheels clean for the next 4 days (ie, remove brake dust at the end of each day with soap and water to prevent it from eating into the fresh paint) and then clean and wax the wheels and bumper on day 5. After that just normal care with the rest of the car.

Cheers Adam

I'm really enjoying it - already done 2,000 miles (just for fun). Got it Revo'd - feels nice, though I didn't know the APR well enough to notice the difference. Still, the dongle's cool! Think the 2nd to 3rd > 5k RPM grind has been resolved too as a side affect of a recent trip to that quattro specialist guy I was telling you about (it was time for a service after all those miles!).

Perfect car (though probably not up there with your new motor, it'll do me!). Only thing is, I've seen 6 other Grey S3's since I got mine! (admittedly, not with silver leather, which is undoubtedly a fantastic combo).

I take it you're enjoying you new car then?
