You always see more exotic or rarer cars in London than in the provinces. Just hang out around Park Lane for a few hours (I once lived in Mayfair).

Another thing... according to sales numbers the Focus is the best selling family hatch in the UK but in the greater London area I see far many more Golfs whether it's Mk4's or Mk5's. All the Focus's must be out in the sticks wink.gif

The money lives in central London where there's far more focus (excuse the pun!) on badge status and what's "in". The Golf is understated and smart and usually the choice of successful young people - Ladies in Golfs especially. Rightly or wrongly, Fords have no class whatsoever, it doesn't matter if they perform better or are cheaper. Last Summer I turned up in my GTI at a rather smart wedding in Central London....There were all sorts of much more expensive cars but peeps wanted to know about my car. The Golf and GTI is very socially acceptable (as Jeremy C said).

Well put...This has always been my opinion of the Golf right or wrong. It just carries a touch more class than many other competitor brands the the medium hatch sector. 169144-ok.gif

Weeeellll, mind you down here in the Sticks (Hampshire village) the other week I was crossing the road and not paying attention, turned to see an 06 Rolls Royce Phantom in metallic blue bearing down on me ...

Would have made a great end to an otherwise boring Obituary!

Aye, I thought about being mean, but couldn't get into the mode. It's a form of standard deviation I often suffer from. grin.gif

Exceedlingly good play on words there, Mr Me 169144-ok.gif,

I bowdown.gif to your eloquent prose!

I always thought I was suffering from a bad case of standard deviation by driving a DSG smashfreakB.gif, just goes to show that you can learn something new everyday! grin.gif

I fall into the 32 - 34 year old (categorie??) age group. Although I can't quite call myself a GTi driver yet. Although I own a 1982 mark 1 Golf GTI, it is currently on axle stands in the garage, stripped down with holes in it and new panels lying beside it awaiting me to stick it all back together with the mig welder.

Well maybe next year I will have it back to it's former condition and enjoy driving it.

It'd be interesting to see if the same / similar stats would be found for competitor models eg. Focus ST, VXR Astra, Civic R etc. I would have thought that the GTI would have had a slightly 'older' following than those shown. I guess it also depends if many of these are company cars v's private.

It was for the SEAT Leon Cupra R,
