B6 S4 Oil consumption

How much engine oil are other S4 owners getting through between services/monthly. I bought my beast at the end of Jan 06 169144-ok.gif and since then it has got through nearly 4 litres of engine oil. shocked.gif

My daily commute is 50 miles, total, motorway and urban combined. My driving style is not heavy footed wink.gif although I do like to give it the full beans occasionally laugh.gif. My old S3 used to get through the oil too but this beast is on another level.

I am going to call the stealer but before I do I would like ot get a general consensus. I am expecting the usual fob off. dung.gif

Mine uses very little. I've added only 1L in the 16k it has done.

Work out your consumption as Litre/1000miles. This is what the dealer will want to know. Unfortunately IIRC they consider anything up to 1L/1000miles to be "normal" confused.gif

Cheers. If the stealer percieves 1L/1000 miles as being normal then mine would also be normal...! I have owend a couple of jalopies in my time and thay never used this much oil. Why does it appear we are at different ends of the oil useage spectrum, you with 1L in 16k, me with 3.5L in 3K.

Just spoke to the stealer and at first got the usual dung.gif Cars within the VW group tend to use a lot of oil etc dung.gif. It is normal etc dung.gif, rule of thumb is 1/2L/600 miles for thr first 20K. blah blah

When I interuppted and stated my car had done 34K the record changed and now it is booked in to be topped up and tagged. I will be sent packing to clock up about 5wks motoring ECLIPSe.gif it will be checked and measured and then we take it from there.

Now unless they sneak in a pot of Wynns in the engine they are going to come to the same conclusion as me. Something is not right you fekr.gif.

It is 9 litres, as for supplying your own oil I looked up internet prices and could only save about £10, just wasn't worth it for hassle sake.

I've just had to use my bottle in the boot after 5500 miles, noticed they have changed from Castrol to Mobil 1 on the spare bottle, I wonder why? Previous to the service was using approx a litre every 4-5,000 miles.

Off topic slightly mine also seems to burn through coolant and hydraulic fluid as well?

I checked my oil level the other day and it was just above the lowest orange marker. I topped it up with approximately a third of a litre from the supplied bottle in the boot, and it's now back up to halfway between the two markers again.

It's covered about 2,200 miles since I got it in early March.

My S4 Avant has 51k on the clock and uses 1litre every 1,200-1,500 miles.

All the dealer says is "if you stick to AVS and LONGLIFE oil it will use this amount and is within the Audi manual of 0.5l per 600m. If you switch to annual/10,000 mile service plan we use normal oil which is thicker and will stop the burn... it's normal don't worry!"

DON'T WORRY! I had an Alfa that used the same amount of oil and blew up after 13,000 miles!

I've also noticed my car give a little puff of blue smoke when started........ warantee runs out in August and it's booked in for a service 24th July.... pengy.gif

CabMac has a point, I get 5-6K per litre, yours is on the heavy side, especially with the mileage you do and style of driving.

Maybe they have watered down the already thin longlife oil because they only had four litres left when you were last in for service? confused.gif

My car has been taken to Stirling Audi on a flat bed today because the oil level has dropped from the top mark to the bottom mark in 160 miles. It makes me worry that some of these cars are using up to a litre of oil every 1200 miles. Maybe Audi should supply them with a 5 litre can instead of the 1 litre.

Can anyone tell me how many litres are between the bottom and top mark of the dip stick?

I got through 1 litre about every 1,000 to 1,500 miles.

I always used to provide Audi with my own oil for full changes as they charged so much but, bizarrely, when my brother-in-law took his RS6 to the same garage for a service, they point blank refused to use any oil but theirs. I guess they thought the £1800 they were relieving him of for the service was only just clearing their profit margin confused.gif
