To Badge or to Debadge?

So will you be debadging the new A4?

I happen to agree that on the back of an A4 that the badges are overkill and they do add a bit of tack to a car that looks nice.

What started this conversation off by the way was a BMW 630Ci being debadged.

6-series have only 1 badge on the boot lid.

It'll either say:

630Ci

645Ci

650Ci

They're hardly what I'd call intrusive:

They're not collosal, they're the only badge other than the BMW logo which is actually the boot opener too, and I just could not fathom why someone would remove a 630Ci badge other than to hide the fact it was a 630 and not a 645/650. On the subject of cleaning, it is really such a hassle??? I've got no white marks around the 645 badge whatsoever from polishing and waxing. I can understand on certain other badges it might be more difficult.

I can understand that some people with a high end car want to make it more stealthy.. to a degree. Don't think I would do it but hey we are all different.

But it the BMW 316 drivers who debadge that make me laugh, if you know what your looking for when you follow one you can or could tell the difference anyway.

Nope leave it as standard for me. If you want to look like you have a better model, simple save and buy one. crazy.gif

I had the badges removed from mine to make it look cleaner and less cluttered and I really like it like that.

Would I do that for an RS4? Yes. Regardless of car value, I'd remove them. Those in the know while appreciate the car and those who don't - would they really know what "RS4" actually meant anyhow?

But does it, or is it because we're now focussing on looking at badges?

I think the A4 in Milos picture isnt so bad because you have a badge either side, so it retains the symetry of twin exhaust, symetrical light clusters, etc, but on the 6 series you have one badge and it doesnt fit (in my eye) with the styling of the rest of the car.

I can see the symmetry point that is being made by the way - but I just don't have this 'RossG' type hang-up!!!! grin.gifwink.gif

My god, if he see's this he's going to have a cardiac arrest at this level of imbalance... yelrotflmao.gif

Remember he wanted me to move my RAII about an inch - because it wasn't perfectly centred and it was bugging him... yelrotflmao.gif

Great guy - strange obsession!

I left the badges on my A4 TDi, mainly because I wanted people to know that's what it was. The embarassment of people not only being smoked by a TDi, a 1.9TDi (not a 2.5 or 3.0) was really quite nice to hand out wink.gif

The badges on the new A4 will also stay. I think it looks perfect and I have no problems telling people that it's a 1.8T. Unlike this guy..

True. How about a Before and After shot. Which do you prefer?

Definitely the second one.

You can say that some people debadge to hide the fact they have a lower spec car and they're embarrassed or trying to make it look like something it isn't. But you can equally say those with higher spec cars don't remove their badges because they're compensating for having small willies. ices_blah.gif

That looks plain silly - we all know for a fact that the 4.2 W12 turbo is v fast, but it isnt in the RS4 - what a daft mistake to make......

IF you dont like the black valance, how about a standard 225 rear valance sprayed up body colour?

I'm with James on this one - the RS6 really needs to be debadged for stealth! tongue.gif

Yep, the exhausts do give it away, but then aftermarket exhausts are very common on many cars and, in any case, I always reverse park so the exhausts are not obvious. The arches are common to all V8 C5s - the standard 4.2, the S6 and the RS6. From the front, the lower valance is not all that different from an S-line A4. Also, my car has the 9-spoke wheels, not the more common 5 spokes.

Okay, there are still giveaways, but most people who are not well up on Audis wouldn't have a clue - even many who know that 'RS' means performance.

Some time ago I posted about an A6 which had been modded and badged up as an RS6 - I suspect it was a 2.7T. Some parts were from the S6. One giveaway, for me, was that the roof rails were polished, not satin, finish - mismatched against the mirrors and grille surround. Also, whilst it had the wide arches at the front, the rears were narrow.

Oh, and my other reason for debadging - less dirt traps/easier cleaning has also been mentioned. I have considered also removing the Audi rings from the tailgate .... but this might be taking things too far?

I'm with MOSE on this one.

In 99% of cases, I'd leave it as standard. However, if you had something like an import, there may be some cases where I'd be tempted to debadge or rebadge it.

I have just realised though that it'd be on a car where no-one would recognise it so wouldn't know I'd debadged it, anyway. I'm sure that says something, though I'm not absolutely sure what.

It still does, everytime I see your car!!! yelrotflmao.gif But, yes, I take the point about the size of your windscreen 169144-ok.gif

I have never really thought about debadging, as I see the badges as part of the look of the car, and I've never been overly offended by any on cars that I have owned.

MrsRossG wants me to debadge the R, for two reasons.

Firstly, she feels that if there are no badges on it, then there are no badges for the local 'yoofs' to steal (although knowing my luck they will just take my windscreen wipers instead yelrotflmao.gif).

Secondly, she feels that a lack of badges will make the car less ovbious, and therefore make her feel safer. I think now that she has driven it plenty, and is aware of the noise, and unique colour, she realises that badges or no badges, the car gets plenty of attention. Locked doors and Pentagon Supaglass make her feel a wee bit safer though 169144-ok.gif

Personally, for the R, I am thinking of adding a badge.

It's partly about symetry on the back, and partly because I think it looks good. I'm thinking about adding a '4Motion' badge in the same place as the back R32 one, but at the right hand side of the bootlid.

I have been reliably informed that this would be very naff however, so no matter how much I think it looks good, I probably won't get away with it tongue.gif169144-ok.gif
