I currently have VW POLO GTI X reg, xenons, climate etc etc, it has 125 bhp, nippy motor with a great spec, problem is i fancy the look of a seat ibize cupra, i could get one if i sold my polo, they have the 1.8t engine with 156 bhp as standard but easily tunable, however they dont have xenons - something which i have grown to love and they dont seem as well put together as the vw although tbhey are virtually the same car.

Any opinions on what i should do? sell the polo and get the ibiza or keep the polo.

I am planning on buying a mk5 golf gti in january/ february so is it worth changing in the mean time?

In a nutshell no, just spread the finance out and get the golf now.

You'll actually lose a lot more than the difference just trading and changing now and then again in six months.

...or get a new POLO GTI, cheaper than the golf, looks like the golf, and has the same engine as the SEAT, now that's a comprimise if ever i heard one.

If you go for the Ibiza then go for the cupra diesel - tunable and loads of fun.

I wouldnt change now though if you are planning to change again in 6 months time (did I really say that?) - seems a bit pointless.

New Polo GTI appears to be a bit short on spec, might might fit the bill if you dont really need the Golf size.

Before I bought my R32 I had a 3 door Polo 125 GTi, did 30k miles in 18 months. Paid £10k for it, private with 900 miles on it. Sold for £7900.

I rate Polo GTi's and they really can be fun, fun, fun.

Xenon's are better than the one's on the R32, so it's a tall order asking for a mini motor that matches the GTi beams.

Why not save money, hold back and wait till next year for the Golf. I really can't think of a gap car that will not cost you 'wasted' money between the time slots you mention.

what is your opinion of the r32 chi5? that is a car i absoloutley love both mk4 and mk5, i actually prefer the mk4 and i have considered getting one, was it a big step up from the polo? i am used to driving quick cars, my farther in law has a garage and i regularly ferry cars around for him, so not too worried about pace but having never driven a 4wd hatch not too sure what to expect

The R32 is a great car, juicy and a bit lardy, but more fun for ££'s than others.

I'm a huge fan of V6's and the torque and always on, power band make the car great for mile munching and quick overtaking.

I've not fiddled with the wheels, chassis or suspension and I'm always delighted with the planted high speed handling. You get a gentle kick in the back when the haldex 4 wd shifts power to the rears on demanding turns and long corners, if she slides it's a doddle to control.

R32 Mk4's are slipping in price, at £16k private for a 25k miles, 3 year old they represent great value.

Try and get a road test in one, you will like it and although it's fairly powerful, it's by no means a scary, nutter car that is difficult to drive- it's solid, reliable and easy to drive 169144-ok.gif

Just make sure you understand the consequences of 18-22 mpg grin.gif
