Why? Is this your opinion or a technical one.

That makes no sense. Why let your enghine settle in at one setting only to change it. My last car was 'chipped' and thrashed from day one with no problem.

....Informed Opinion - From 2 independent tuners with over 15 years experience. My understanding is that it's better in the long term to let everything loosen up and settle and show up any problems (which can be dealt with without issue under warranty). Also, imo it's good to have time to appreciate the difference between your car as standard and re-mapped.

Had exactly the same problem with my local VW dealer in West Yorkshire....got told every excuse under the sun about not being able to have a test drive in an R32...twice !

So rather than give them my custom I saved a few bob and bought my GTi from Motorprovider in Sheffield (and very pleased I did too). You must live quite close to Motorprovider.....I should look them up if you don't find any willing dealers...they have had some R32's 169144-ok.gif

Has anyone on here got the MOREGO 250 bhp chip on here, I read in EVO that it was a cracking upgrade but they did test it with the addtional fast handling upgrade as well. As mine is already running on 18' I don't really want to go any stiffer...........

....Re suspension, I can recommend you check out Koni FSD plus Eibach Springs and Anti-roll Bars. The setup only lowers 5mm (to allow the Koni FSDs to perform at their optimum).

Just got my GTI burns fuel like a racecar Garage have suggested 98 ron Have filled tank with same but do not notice any difference. Is the MPG supposed to be better. My GT TDI 140bhp did about 350 miles to a tank around town This one does 200 and its all gone. Any feedback would be appreciated

Hmmm, Dare I challenge anyone to find an alternative 2.0 turbo engined petrol engine that can produce 200ps and deliver on average 30mpg? I think this engine is an absolute great alrounder - hence why it's won the engine of the year award for the second time! wink.gif You'd have to cover a fair mileage to warrant 'chipping' to improve performance on grounds of cost. grin.gif

Try 225bhp from a turbo 1.8 from the same family and get an average of 32Mpg over a period of 12 months and 14k miles, and not motorway miles either. Both my 210bhp and 225 S3 and 225 TTr were suprisingly more economical whilst being heavier more powerful and lacking cc. It must be somthing to do with the gearing up at around 80 Mph the Mpg just drops away........

Could be, but 6th is quite high. Have you had your car checked out? Mine gets about 35mpg on a 79mph motorway run with some backroads and roundabouts, so not all constant speed.

Interesting thread - 90% to do with driving style and 10% with specific cars I would think. I'm running it in at the moment but over 190 miles it has averaged 34.9mpg - probably 70% motorway at 60,70 & 80mph. My initial impression is that you can accellerate the GTI with very little throttle pressure and still make rapid progress in normal driving conditions. Some people tend to not particularly drive fast but still wear lead boots and stay on the throttle until the last minute before applying the anchors. grin.gif

The Morego suspension revisions arn't quite so radical but then again it is quite a bit cheaper. After speaking with them it basicaly involves loewering the ride hight by approx 10mm and fitting new front wishbones that alter the camber to a more negative setting which gives greater traction thus enabling it to handle the additional power whilst cornering.

Does the Koni/Eibach set up acheive a similar result along with the reported superb damping control ?

nb. I am not a suspension expert at all quite the opposite and would be interested in any more qualified TSN'ers views notworthy.gif

Lazerblue: I can 100% echo what Robin has said here about the Koni`s and FSD`s, as I have tried them out on Awesome GTI`s own car, which has them fitted. Believe me, they are superb, and offer excellent damping, with increased comfort, but yet better grip and roadholding !

The only thing stopping me having it done is the bloody insurance (as usual). Because they class them as a performance modification, my premium would go up again, and, due to my re-map, it`s already £525.

"Not bad", I hear you say, which it isn`t compared to what some are paying, but I believe the suspension mods would put it up around £600, and I can insure a standard E46 M3 for only £75 more (not really the point, I know, but that`s my reasoning for not getting the suspension mods done).

Top and bottom of it mate, a re-map is great; increases both performance and fuel economy, and so are the suspension mods, which improve the handling even more.

With both done, the GTI is one "helluva car".
