Hi all

After a couple of weeks reading this post I decided to order a cruise control kit and a DIS control stalk.

I fitted both today to my 2005 A4 Avant S-line, and they work perfectly, so a big thank you to all that have posted instructions on how to fit them.

Good work!:)

Hi All, I too have been looking at this thread and decided to take the plung and do these mods. Well I have been at it all day and the mechanical bits where ok and I took my time all ok.

The coding was not to bad except I got the same fault on the ABS module as stevebootes (thanks for updating the post) and got that sorted after a few drives. The DIS works fine straight away, but the cruise has not worked at all! I went out for a drive a few times about 4 miles each time with no joy to see if it would spring in to life, no joy. I decided to short out the clutch switch with some wire and go for a drive. The car was then very slugish and no pull at all. I got back and ran a full scan and was well gutted when I got the following codes :

Saturday,05,December,2009,17:47:55:23547

VCDS Version: Release 908.1

Address 01: Engine Labels: 038-906-019-AVF.lbl

Control Module Part Number: 038 906 019 JT

Component and/or Version: 1,9l R4 EDC G000SG 1572

Software Coding: 10003

Work Shop Code: WSC 63351

5 Faults Found:

17849 - EGR Valve (N18): Open Circuit or Short to Ground

P1441 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

17957 - Boost Pressure Regulation Valve (N75): Open or Short to Ground

P1549 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

16955 - Brake Switch (F): Implausible Signal

P0571 - 35-00 - -

19561 - Valve for Intake Manifold Flap (N239): Open or Short to Ground

P3105 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

19463 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40): No Signal

P3007 - 35-00 - -

Readiness: 0 0 X X X

I have searched the web for similar issues and found the only match on a Polish site. This turned out to be a fuse (in the engine bay) on a 2002 passat . I have since check all the "engine managment" fuses in the fuse box but all are ok. I have checked the clutch switch and I am not getting any power to it to ground out. I have also checked the switch and it looks like it is open circuit all the time (I should think this was reason for no CC).

I am now at a loss to find the feed as I do not have a wiring diagrams and cannot tell where the power comes from or what fuse/ relay it passes through (cannot find any on the web). So if anyone can help please it would be really appreciated especially as I need the thing for Monday morning  Other than this issue everything else in this post was top notch.

Very difficult to comment without seeing the car but it could be possible that you have shorted the brake switch? Only reason I say this is that when my brake switch failed the car went into limp/safe mode and had the ECU fault (Glow plug light flashes). Worth a double check?

Hi guys, Yes definatly the clutch the blue one on the right directly above the clutch pedal. I have at last got to the bottom of all the engine codes eventually. A friend had access to some decent infomation. The Haynes manuall is rubbish:mad:. The issue was a fuse in the ECM housing under the bonnet a 15A normal one that supplies the ECM with power for a multitude of sensors, could not find that nugget of infoamtion anywhere on the web. The same issue as the Polish guy! So that was sorted after I have changed modules and then back again, just to be sure. The Airbag is now unable to talk to the car so I think I have screwed the clockspring as the steering angle sensor is not working either when logged in to it and moving the steering wheel . I was so careful with the b***dy thing as well. So will order up new bits for next weekend. I so hope it work out then ok. I did not try and short out the clutch spring as well as I have 350 miles this week to do for work!! That can wait till next weekend. Thanks for the replies and I will update on the next stage, and If you have any advice would be appreciated. Thanks again+++

Well got a new clutch switch installed it today and cleared all codes down ran a full check enabled cruise and all works fine now . I had driven the car about 400 miles and let it settle down and all seems ok so far. So thanks for all the help and this thread as I would never had done it without all the help and advice on here. Cheers.

Hi Guys!

I am going to have a shot at fitting DIS and Cruise to my 2004 A4 Avant over the Christmas Holls!

Quick question though, if i want to fit a MFSW at a later date, which steering wheel control module do i need?

As from what i understand some work with just DIS, some with DIS and Cruise, other work with all three including MFSW...

I have been offered an 'N' and a 'Q' module.. Just wondered which was best to go for..

Also, would you get a "used" module? they seem far cheaper to pick-up from breakers rather new from Audi!

Just wondered if they were an issue to re-code the VIN??

Cheers!

Chris

Good choice, Q should be MFSW compatible from memory.

I hope so! I don't intend to install one now, however I will in future.

Shark, would you mind if i email / PM you a photo of the module?

As it looks slightly different to the N ones that i have seen.

'N' Modules I have seen seem to have this clear plastic circular bit on the front, but the one i have ordered doest. Just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing any parts before I start fitting.

Regards

Chris

Mine is a "Q" and I have installed DIS and Cruise with no problems and also have MFSW, I have the clear plastic on front of mine.

Thats good to know! Will have to look out for a MFSW now.. I really like the B7 ones so want to get one of them.

I am going to steal the clear plastic bit from my old module..

Cheers

Chris

Don't do it. Dual stage airbag + single stage controller = death :o

Also, the module is just the horse shoe shaped bit at the back, the rest of it are seperate (i.e. additional) parts.

Confused as hell now! loll

So are you saying that a B7 MFSW wont work in a B6? if so thats ok.. for now...

You are not referring to me swapping the horse shoe part of the module form my old controller to the new one? That wont = death will it?

----

Quick one as well, i know this has probably been covered and i should just search... but how do i find the login code for my controllers?

Cheers!

Chris

That's EXACTLY what we are saying.

The airbag system is completely different between the B6 and B7.

So far there's only 1 documented crash of a B6 with a retrofitted B7 MFSW ... all the passenger airbags deployed but the driver one didn't so the driver had injuries where his face hit the steering wheel.

DON'T DO IT!!!

Thank you very much for the heads up / advice :)

I guess I am limited to what MFSW I can get then? Maybe something from a MK1 TT??

Hi Guys,

I am new to this forum but am on a few other Audi forums already which is where i was directed to this thread with its wealth if info!

Anyway cutting to the point in hand i have just got a Audi A4 B6 Avant but its the sport model and therefore does not have DIS installed and also no cruise control. So i am keen to retrofit these items. I am also concidering doing a Multifunction steering wheel as i have RNS-E and an Auto gearbox so that would be a nice little add on.

Now i have already managed to source a DIS wiper stalk so i basically wanted to confirm with you guys what exactly i need to be shopping for as i don't wanna end up buying the wrong stuff. So this is whta i think i am looking for and if anyone can confirm or correct my shopping list that would be great :

1. Steering Control Module part number 8E0 953 549 and either N or R

2. Steeering Slipring 8E0 953 541 D

3. Cruise Control Arm (not sure of part number but i think its 9E0 853 521 4PK)

4. B6 Multifunction Steering Wheel inc Tip Tronic buttons (i think the only B6 version of this is the 4 spoke design with some of the button intergrated into the airbag).

Any help is appreciated
