S4_marv
Just wanted a sanity check on a part number with the TSN cruise experts: There's a guy selling a steering column with DIS & cruise stalks and a cruise compatible cowling on flea bay, but the photo of his Steering Control Module part no shows it as a 8E0 953 549 F. But I was under the impression from an earlier question/answer in this thread that the F module wasn't cruise compatible? So either his part no sticker is wrong, or he's trying to pull a fast one! Vagcom says 8E0 953 549 F which the dealer said didnt exist, then asked for the VIN number and said it was the "N" version in the car. And there, my friend, is your problem.Never trust a dealer. They know absolutely jack sh1t about your car, parts, or much else for that matter. According to the Audi parts system, suffix F does not exist. However it obviously does. Simply, you don't have the right controller, which is why you can't code cruise in. So you'll have to buy a new one and so a full, proper retrofit as per the instructions. Finally - is it possible for the Audi techs to check the part number by plugging into my car? Last time I was in there they said they weren't able to, unless they actually needed to change a setting in that module. Sounded a bit weird to me. Does anyone know whether or not this is true? shark_90
Yes then can check and no an F module won't work.

S4_marv
I had the car in at the dealers today for some minor work, and asked them to check the part no. of the SCM while it was in. They said that they tried, but that they were unable to check the part number, as apparently on their system you have to actually attempt to change a setting in order to get the part number... Doesn't sound totally right to me, but can anyone confirm/deny this?Anyway, the parts guy, who's been nothing but helpful, got in touch with Audi Technical HQ and they came back and assured him that I have the correct module for cruise. So fingers crossed when I come to actually order & fit the parts I don't find out that I need a new SCM!! I await your post which says "I tried to fit the cruise today and it didn't work" Here it is... the post you were waiting for Shark! (Well, not exactly, but almost...) I got myself a VAG cable and checked out the SCM part # myself last week, and indeed the Audi parts man and Audi Technical HQ were both wrong when they told me I had a cruise compatible SCM (suffix 'N')! In fact I have an 'S', so as I understand it, this is not cruise compatible Now begins my search for a cheap cruise SCM!! On a brighter note, I got a good deal on an armrest, and retrofitted that, so it wasn't all bad.

S4_marv
Just found a useful page on the Ross Tech website which I'd never seen before. It gives the differences between the Steering Wheel Control Modules: Cruise Control Retrofitting (8E) - Ross-Tech Wiki LowlineSupported Steering Wheels: Standard Steering Wheel (4-Spoke) Supported Features: Trip Computer (does NOT support Cruise Control!) Part Numbers: 8E0-953-549-F, 8E0-953-549-S Midline Supported Steering Wheels: Standard Steering Wheel (4-Spoke), Sport Steering Wheel (3-Spoke), Multi-Function Steering Wheel Supported Features: Trip Computer, Cruise Control Part Numbers: 8E0-953-549-L, 8E0-953-549-N Highline Supported Steering Wheels: Standard Steering Wheel (4-Spoke), Sport Steering Wheel (3-Spoke), Multi-Function Steering Wheel Supported Features: Trip Computer, Cruise Control, Steering Wheel Heating Part Numbers: 8E0-953-549-M, 8E0-953-549-P, 8E0-953-549-Q, 8E0-953-549-R There's more info on there too which is worth a read, such as the codings etc (most of which has been discussed in this thread already!). Hope someone finds this useful
S4_marv
Just wanted to say, I fitted cruise today, and thanks to all the info on this thread, it's all working, and was a lot easier than I expected. If anyone's considering it, I'd definitely say to give it a go. Just do your research, get it straight in your mind what you need to do before you do it, then crack on. As long as you're careful, you can't damage anything! I had a couple of minor issues along the way. The main one was due to me not installing the new SCSM properly, which meant that the SCSM, slip ring and cowling were sitting too far forward (towards the driver), so when I put the steering wheel back on it was rubbing and squeaking against the cowling. It drove me mad for about an hour until I found the cause! I must have had the wheel on and off about 4 times while investigating what was making it rub! Thanks to all previous posters for your invaluable knowledge and advice. I'm planning to post an updated version of the guide talked about above soon, which will include other info that I've picked up from this thread, and a couple of other places online too. norfolk-boy
Hi S4_Marv just wondering what deal you got on your armrest and were you picked it up from? I have just got a B7 and it does not have one.
S4_marv
Hi mate, you can get them from the dealers, but I got mine from eBay. Nearly all of the used ones for sale on there seem to be black leather, but as my interior is "silver" leather I had to buy a lid separately and swap it with the black leather one. I waited a long time for an armrest to sell at a reasonable price - a lot seem to go for £100 - £130 for a used one! I was too tight to pay that much! Bear in mind that you'll also need a lower bracket - the bit that bolts to your car under the centre console - so if you're buying from ebay always ask the seller if it includes this. Mine didn't and I got it from the dealer for about £30ish. It's a really easy job to fit. The hardest bit would be cutting out a hole in the centre console, but there are templates available I think. I luckily didn't have to do this, as someone had already had an armrest in my car, but then took it out before I bought the car, and covered the hole with a crap looking piece of carbon fibre effect plastic. Probably sold it on ebay. Tight git! Edit: If you're quick, there's one on ebay here, but that's only a cloth topped one, without a bracket, but it looks in good nick, and could go for a reasonable price. norfolk-boy
Cheers for the reply appreciated. Do you still have the black leather lid? That is the one I need. I missed that one on eBay but will be looking. Now to do the cruise and DIS for a second time. That is for Monday me thinks.
S4_marv
I still have the lid, I've cleaned and conditioned it with Gliptone Liquid Leather cleaner & conditioner, so it's in really good condition now, and smells amazingly leathery!! I'll be putting it on ebay in a week or so I think.

S4_marv
I've tried to attach the original pdf of the Cruise document, but it's 500bytes too big for TSN's limit for pdfs! I'll be updating this with my experience and a few more instructions that I found were missing when I get time, hopefully soon. Edit - I've temporarily uploaded the pdf to Google Docs here. If anyone needs one, I'm selling the torx T55 sockets that are required to remove your steering wheel (which is required for retrofitting DIS/cruise). They're brand new, Stanley sockets. £5 delivered for fellow TSN folks. PM me if you're interested. Edited May 12, 2010 by S4_marv
S4_marv
I've now completed my updates to the Cruise Control fitting guide, which can be found on Google Docs here. Feel free to use it as you wish. I'd appreciate it if anyone has any comments or suggestions to let me know via PM so I can update the doc. Cheers Steve PS. I'll leave the link to the previous version active for now, so that people can use either, or compare them or whatever, but I'll be taking the old one down before too long. norfolk-boy
Well I missed S4_Marv's your armrest lid on eBay. I could not believe how much you got for it I was only quoted £59.27 inc from the Stealer!! I have removed my old CC and DIS from my B6 and put it on my new B7 at the weekend and the DIS went well and I even managed to code out the annoying seatbelt alarm:D However the CC has been a bit of an issue I followed your excellent guide until I got to step 23 and to the login – 11 and this was greyed out and not an option so a bit of fiddling and some time on the web and it seemed I have the following brake module not Bosch 5.7: Control Module Coding (Bosch 8.0) Note #1: There is no Login/Coding-II necessary. Note #2: After successful coding the steering angle sensor basic setting needs to be carried out. Select 03 (Brake Electronics) Coding -> Function 07 On Request. So I did what it said on the Ross-Tech site to do steering angle calibration as below: Audi A4 (8E) Brake Electronics (Bosch 8.0) From Ross-Tech Wiki Jump to: navigation, search Basic Setting Steering Angle Sensor (G85) Calibration [select] [03 - ABS Brakes] [Fault Codes - 02] [Done, Go Back] Start Engine (session still running). Turn steering wheel at least 30 ° left and back straight ahead. [Meas. Blocks - 08] Group 005 Field 1 (Steering Angle Sensor -G85-) Specification: 0.0 ° Tolerance (when straight): ±5.0 ° [Done, Go Back] [security Access - 16] Enter 40168 [Do It!] [basic Settings - 04] Group 001 [Go!] [Done, Go Back] [Fault Codes - 02] All fault codes should have disappeared. [Done, Go Back] [Close Controller, Go Back - 06] All worked ok but I cannot find the codes for the brakes so I have used the previous settings 0004401 and completed the steps. All light out for ABS ect However the CC does not function but all coding looks good. I have swapped over the clutch switch from the B6 to the B7 just in case, no change. I have looked at the CC in Engine - Measuring Blocks group 6 CCS and can see the CC Switch working and the brake pedal changes the value in Pedal Monitoring, however the clutch doe not change this value! So I need to know if that should any chance some one could test it for me or have I missed something with the other brake coding option? Any help appreciated. Also better mention I have a MFSW and a Q SCM already so did not change that all MFSW work and DIS is good.
S4_marv
Yeah, I couldn't believe it sold for that amount!! I'm very chuffed with that, especially considering I only paid £60 for the whole armrest 6 weeks ago! The joys of eBay! It does sound like your clutch switch could be FUBAR, but that's surprising, considering it came out of a previous car in which cruise worked! I'd only be guessing if I suggested anything else, so I'll wait for someone more knowledgeable to come along! PS. Thanks for pointing out a drop-off in the Cruise instructions. I'll put a note in there when I get round to it to say that the login isn't necessary for Bosch 8.0. If anyone has any more detailed instructions on what to do for Bosch 8.0 for Cruise then I'll add that too.
norfolk-boy
Very good deal on the armrest+++. I am going to get a new switch on my way home tomorrow so will fit it in the car park and let you know if it is that. I cannot think of anything else, and the clutch not causing the output to move would indicate that! I could have damaged it when I removed it from the other car but!! I don't want to short the plug out as that blew a fuse last time I did that on my B6 that dropped the car in limp home mode, bit of a nightmare really. I will let you know how it goes. norfolk-boy
Bought a new switch and they gave me the wrong part:confused: So I decided to check the old one from my B6 that was in it now. I read on another post that the switch (for an A6) needs to have the plunger pullled all the way out (you can hear it ratchet when this happens) and the pedal needs to be depressed whilst you instal it. Tried this, connected up VAGCOM and I looked at the CC in Engine - Measuring Blocks group 6 CCS and can see the CC Switch working and the brake pedal changes the value in Pedal Monitoring and now Clutch is changing the display :D Quick test drive and sorted+++ So you might want to drop those bits in the guide for people as well. One last thing to note as well was each time I did this coded up both my cars the remote keyfob lost it's pairing to the car and had to be reset:confused: This is simple to sort out though press unlock on the keyfob put in ignition switch on (no need to start) switch off remove and press unlock on the keyfob again, should now work. Thanks to all who have contributed to these pages for a second time and keep up the good work.
