macperc
Oh hell!! Just booked my car in for this eve with a local Audi specialist to have the rattly noise and stalling problem looked at. Went out at lunch to fill up with Optimax - on the way back to work smoke has started coming from my exhaust!! Blue smoke!! I'm very worried. Very very worried. Please tell me this is because I've used a fuel system cleaner recently?!! (desperate i know) Anyone have any ideas?

macperc
Took it to the local specialist this eve - a 35mile drive from work - no smoke at all!! Rattling is still there though - the guy said the most cost effective way to cure (103k miles) would be to fit a new cylinder head for 1200 quid!!! He wasn't sure exactly what the sound was - possibly chain tensioner but also stem seals causing oil to be used. Don't know what to do Vag com also gave a fault for the "knock sensor" and another saying "power +be too low" or something like that? I should have written the codes down but wasn't thinking straight! Anyone know how much a replacement engine from a breakers is likely to cost? Cheers
RobA3
I wouldn't buy a second hand engine from a breakers, what area are you from they will probably someone on here that can recommend a good garage.
macperc
Cheers, yeah I know its not ideal but the car has done 103k now. I was thinking I could pick up a used low milage engine for the same price as just getting the head done by a specialist. At least the smoke has stopped altogether now! I'm in Somerset, it's booked in with a second Audi specialist for Thursday for a second opinion - this place seem to know what they're talking about. macperc
Cheers, I saw this too. Bit risky though spending a grand on something with no gaurantee especially if the engine has already been removed. Does anyone know, is it o.k to use a different engine code as a replacement ie a tt engine in the S3 i presume mounting points are the same and i guess you'd also need the corresponding ecu. Car's in the garage today so fingers crossed it can be fixed cheaply!! Thanks, James
