Spare Plastic Key

I've got a 2004 1.9 TDI SE Multrtronic and have used the plastic key many, many times. If i go out and am leaving the car in town, i'll use the plastic key to drive the car into town and pop it back in my wallet. Saves carrying a big key about (to lose).

It'll set off the alarm when you get in but once you turn the ignition on, all the doors unlock and the alarm disarms anyway.

maybe by using the proper keys, it resets the plastic key or something... I dunno.. just guessing now.

I've still got mine, but never tried using it as yet.

I think it's referred to as a "wallet key" by Audi themselves.

I always called it the 'dealer key'. Don't know about the starting the car twice only malarky, but I assumed that the dealer key unlocks the car doors only; but won't unlock the glove box or boot if you've previously locked them. That's how it is/was with Mercs anyway... Stop the stealers nicking your winegums and CDs!

Ooooh... Winegums, how the other half live!

I can't see how using the key will 'wear' out the transponder chip. I'd be more worried about wearing out the plastic key itself!

Can you get spares?

The plastic key is fully functional. It has a variable code transponder so can be used to start the vehicle as long as its coded to the immobiliser.
