I've got a 2004 1.9 TDI SE Multrtronic and have used the plastic key many, many times. If i go out and am leaving the car in town, i'll use the plastic key to drive the car into town and pop it back in my wallet. Saves carrying a big key about (to lose).

It'll set off the alarm when you get in but once you turn the ignition on, all the doors unlock and the alarm disarms anyway.

I always called it the 'dealer key'. Don't know about the starting the car twice only malarky, but I assumed that the dealer key unlocks the car doors only; but won't unlock the glove box or boot if you've previously locked them. That's how it is/was with Mercs anyway... Stop the stealers nicking your winegums and CDs! wink.gif

Ooooh... Winegums, how the other half live! tongue.gif

I can't see how using the key will 'wear' out the transponder chip. I'd be more worried about wearing out the plastic key itself! blush.gif

Can you get spares?

NELSON?!!!? shocked.gif
