Calm Chris
Just wondered if anyone has had the belt changed due to mile done. If so any idea how long it takes and what the cost is? Pretty sure I've seen something here before that suggests cambelt change is about £800 Is that right? And is the cambelt due at 60k miles or 4 years? Gti_Fly
Its a metal chain and therefore has no specific service life. They don't tend to fail, but when/if they do you will know as it becomes noisy. Sometimes the tensioner can fail, but its uncommon
RossG
[ QUOTE ] Pretty sure I've seen something here before that suggests cambelt change is about £800 [/ QUOTE ] When my 'rattle' was being investigated, my cam chains (there are actualy 2, one for each cam I was told) were changed along with their tensioners. It was warranty work, but the invoice that I saw under my copy had a figure of comfortably over £1000
jimmyp
The R32 has a cam chain, the belt which you can see on the left of the engine is the poly belt which runs the alternator, water pump and things...
Calm Chris
Thanks guys, Should have checked my post title, sorry for the Ant typo it should be Any! So are we saying that the cam chain(s) is a 'no service change' item or does it has a shelf life and a recommended service change schedule? R32TIM
I've done over 80k and was told that the chain should never need replacing.
Calm Chris
Good! Have been considering long term ownership beyond warranty and costs over the 4th and 5th year. I think the block has to be taken out to do the cam belts, which would be near Fezza money if it was a item due for scheduled replacement after 4 or 5 years, since it's not, I'm a happy bunny
RossG
[ QUOTE ] I think the block has to be taken out to do the cam belts [/ QUOTE ] When mine were done, they droped the gearbox out and went in that way... They also had my gear box out to replace my flywheel. Oh, and to replace the engine, they take the bumper off, remove all the radiotor stuff and the climate, then ease the engine out. After JimmyP, I bet I have the R32 that has been taken apart and rebuilt the most
