Sparky
[ QUOTE ] Its just the nature of the engine. At idle it sounds like a quiet diesel. [/ QUOTE ] Would be interesting to know what they've changed over the A3/Golf GTI/Leon 2.0T engines. They sound lovely at idle.
UBM
The 2.0TDI has or should i say had a strange whine to it - like an electrical whine. Funny it's disappeared after my service. Mrs UBM says it feels more sporty....
Nelson_R32
Well I've still got it I hate people who moan that the 2.0TDi engine sounds like a Diesel at idle...are they all delibrately trying to be patronising?
UBM
Try servicing it Nelson!
Milo
If anyone has a 2.0T that sounds like a diesel I suggest they take it back as it sounds like it's fecked. Mine doesn't and never has done either at idle or all the way up to the red line.

Ian_C
[ QUOTE ] S'ok the 2.0TDI does not sound like a diesel much....! [/ QUOTE ] Sorry, but don't take the piss!! Maybe the longitudinal A4 B7 is quieter than the Sportback, but it sounds exactly like a tractor standing beside it upon start up. Ian

lake_music
I must confess, I was surprised how coarse mine sounded at low revs when cold - definately diesel-ish. It's a different story once you get over 2000 revs though - as smooth as you're gonna get from a 4 pot. I fully expect it to improve when properly run in. Justhe1
I have noticed that mine also sounds ever so slightly "diesel like" when starting up, esp from cold - I just assumed it was due to the direct injection on the FSI, a-la diesel engines. A four pot engine is never going to sound great (unless its a flat four/ boxer engine)- just turn the music up....!
