nicks3
Does anyone know the part numbers for the original VW install kit for the Ipod for a mark 5 R32? Also where does it mount? Is this the way to go or denison icelink?
Oatz
i believe they are the same just VW version is re-labelled
TP27
VW Part No is :- 1KO 051 444 and it consists of this
TP27
Installed it looks like this and IMHO it's much better than the Dension in MrsTP's Polo ('cos it's hidden, has less parts and I hate dash furniture).
nicks3
Thanks TP27. Does the kit come with instructions and did you fit it yourself? I have RCD500 and soundpack.
TP27
Yes it does come with instructions (albeit my (BMW) tech fitted for me) and with the RCD 500, you can still keep the CD function AND the iPod. Even better, if you have Highline and MFSW, the VW kit should also allow you to change track. VW will fit this for £150, the kit is £100 and honestly, get a VW tech to do it as I had a scraped Air-Con control taking the HU out and the VW tech will be covered against this. In addition, the sound is A1 and with Soundpack too, you'll be loving it !! TP.
magrillz
Does it display the track name on the headunit too? looks good
Maxyboy
and does it still show the track/album on the ipod screen?...and does it charge the ipod as it goes.....and...and...i think thats it....for now....
nicks3
Brilliant, thanks
xscreamsuk
Doesn't display track names, set up playlists 1-5, number 6 goes through whole of ipod in order. These are the same as the CD changer buttons on the headunit. I change the playlists every so often and print out a list of track numbers to enable easy navigation. It displays the track number. Yep it charges the Ipod, I have mine in the glove box, you don't need to get at it, as you can't change tracks via the ipod I don't think, but only through the head unit or the MFSW. Maxyboy
dont know how to put direct link in....but....if you go to ebay and type vw ipod interface.....it looks like this gadget allows the ipod to keep displaying the names on the ipod screen.....and still keeps the cd function.....has anyone tried one of these or even seen them? xscreamsuk
Aah, should have read better, I think it does keep the name on the ipod screen, but I can't see in the glove box too well when I'm driving :-) would be sooooo much better if the name came up on the HU though. Guess need an aftermarket unit for this.
UKLooney
[ QUOTE ] VW Part No is :- 1KO 051 444 and it consists of this [/ QUOTE ] This does not look like a re-badged dension icelink, this has only two cables, don't think it will reach into the armrest either (though I never tried), and the electronics bit is a long rubber sleeved PCB with I/O connectors at either end. Connectors look similar though... The newer model comes with a video connector, which should allow you to hook up a video ipod to your satnav screen There is also a splitter box available to allow you to connect multiple sources to your head unit (phatbox, dvdplayer, walkman mobile, etc)
nicks3
Denison details state "CD6 accesses the ice>Link Plus menu that lets you browse all of the playlists on your iPod using your head unit FF/RW keys. The menu also provides configuration options for advanced features of the interface. Please note that the original 1G/2G iPods that don't have the bottom-mounted dock connector do not support ice>Link Plus playlist mode or the menu." so it appears that i will be able to view my playlists rather than having to write their position down - is this correct and does the vw system do this too? bigface
so will this work on the standard golf cd player and allow the cd to keep working?
UKLooney
On the icelink, you can browse your playlists etc using CD6 (artists/tracks etc. displayed on ipod screen and not on the head unit). The interface is tricky to use though, as it involves the use of the 'FF/REW' buttons on the head unit. The RCD300/500 'FF/REW' buttons are accessed by holding the NEXT/PREV buttons down for a couple of seconds. I have reverted to disconnecting the ipod, browsing to my selection from the ipod, then reconnecting it...
nicks3
Ok so if you disconnect the ipod and scroll through to find a playlist you want when you plug the ipod back into the icelink the playlist carries on? If you use the RCD500 to scroll through the playlist does it go through them all alphabetically until you come to the one you want? One other question concerning the ipod - how do you delete the songs from Itunes under the 'recently added' list to get a blank screen rather than seeing all recently added songs? [/ QUOTE ] Yes There is also an option to allow you to do this whilst still attached, you still need to use the FF/REW buttons initially and have access to the ipod (glovebox install is more more suited to the removal method). [ QUOTE ] If you use the RCD500 to scroll through the playlist does it go through them all alphabetically until you come to the one you want? [/ QUOTE ] I think so, but can't be sure... nicks3
Thanks for that. Re the Ipod I'm not sure I'm adding albums in the right way as once it has been uploaded to itunes I have to manually create a playlist with the labum and artist title and then copy the songs from the recently added list to the newly created playlist and finding them all is a pain. I am doing this the right way?
UKLooney
This is how I do it too, except for the last bit. I usually sort the main library by 'date added', the new tracks are then easily found at the top of the list.
nicks3
The last part makes more sense than the way I do it! Thanks I'll try that one. I just thought that it may just add the albums to the playlist itself and I was doing it incorrectly!
BrakeSnake
OK, maybe you guys can help. Just spoke to my local stealer, and they say £150 for fitment all in, but as i have the front loading 6 Disc CD autochanger, i can't have the kit fitted as it is either the CD changer or the ipod which can be connected, not both.... seems daft to me, is this really the case? TP27
On my old R, I had RCD 500 and iPod connections. The CD still worked with the IPod connected too.
