[Audi A3/S3] Cactus Green rare colour?

The salesman that dealt with me when I bought my A3 1.8T Sport as 2nd hand back in Dec 02 said that Cactus Green was a very arer colour for my model and that is why it was pricier and more sought after than other colours including the white and the red model they had for sale at the same time.

Is this true and if so how many of you have got A3's in this colour?

Bear in mind that salesmen will use every possible angle on you if he thinks he's going to get a sale...

I mean 'Imola' wink.gif Yellow S3's are very rare yet I can't imagine anyone paying a premium for one....well...apart from the obvious ices_blah.gif

Mine's silver and although there's lots of them I'm sure when it comes to buying one its 'desirable' and 'highly sought after'. Best test will be when you go to sell it, try and trade it in at the same dealer and see what they say then wink.gif

I see what your saying, but the guy is a friend of the family and he had a few other cars available at similar prices so would not have gained from selling me that particular one. Three other guys turned up on the same day trying to buy it after I had put the deposit down and they did not look twice at any of the other cars!?!

No Silver ones there at the time, I hasten to add.

i know he's a family friend but what he's saying doesn't tally up with what the dealers were telling me when i was looking to trade in my green A3. their impression was that the colour was less popular and hence would be harder for them to sell on. I could see their point even though i loved my green A3. I'd expect to pay less for cactus green - not more. thats just my personal opinion of course. if you like a car enough, you'll pay what you feel it's worth.

Ari isn't the only one, I'm another Cactus Green A3T Owner, see in the gallery wink.gif

In and around my area there are a couple more A3s in this colour and quite a few A4s. Not quite like the 101 silver ones I see but not that exclusive. Also I believe that Audi changed the colour after the facelift, so its only avaliable from 97 - 01.

Cheers,

Chris.

this made me laugh grin.gif

no offence intended bpsmith and I'm sure he's a good friend but this is such a pile of horse dung.gif (as I suspect is the comment about the interest after you paid)

colours are rare because they are either a) unpopular or b) an expensive extra (ie non-std option)

to give a fairly mild example - speed yellow Boxster's are rare coz they look wrong and every dealer advises against speccing one coz they are difficult to sell on

Imola yellow S3 look great IMHO but I am in a minority and if buying one I would knock £1k off my offer v a similar silver/black/grey/ming one. In fact I would probably only buy one if it was a company car.

Cactus Green is a love it/hate it colour imho and therefore you are immediately limiting your resale market by 50-80% - that said if you like it then fine?

couldn't agree more - i have an Imola Yellow S3 and you just have to accept that if its slightly off the norm then it appeals to fewer people so hence you wont get as good a price.

Theres a guy round here driving an ORANGE S3 EEK2.GIF - cant see too many people wanting that colour when he comes to sell it on...

I can see what your saying, especially Adam!

I took wqhat the guy said with a pinch of Salt! I liked the colour and preferred it to the Red and the White one there at the same time. After I drove the car I just had to have it as made my old Rover Coupe feel like a bag of s**t!!!

I was just interested to see what other people thought and how many other ones were out there. Thanks for all the feedback of varying types!

I dont see what is wrong with the Cactus Green personally or the Imola yellow for that matter!?! But we all have our own personal tastes. I would not go for the Orange S3 myself personally so there is a perfect example!

Ignore Adam - speed yellow boxster look cool.

It is a fairly common point though that certain colours are very hard to sell - Yellow, White, most greens - ask any sales man for advice when speccing and they tell you silver and black are safe colours. As he is your mate I would suggest that he buys you the next few beers for not being entirely truthful with you.

Although remember the 80's - loads of white cars - i wonder if silver will go the same way.

my old snot-mobile was one of those funky lifestyle colours and was pretty loud compared to the cactus green. I personally loved it but the dealers (quite rightly) offered a pants trade-in price for it cos it was a love it/hate it colour. Out of the 3 colours you had to choose from, i'd say that i'd have taken the same as you.

Here's the snot mobile one more time...

so what colours have your Boxsters been sk?

like speed yellow but on 993/996 rather than Boxster

just go for the colour you like I say, but bear in mind silver and dark metallics sell easiest on prestige cars

(PS god i hate white cars NONO3.GIFha.gif)
