thanks for the reply.

on the balance of 'clever' things to do, i guess this 235 tyre is probably best avoided then.

i looked on the configuation page of Audi and they dont seem to have listed the 235 for the Audi A3, only the A4.

17 is the diameter of the rim, but you have to take into account the profile of the tyre too. The second number equates to the profile and is a ratio of the width. So it will make a difference to the overall radius of the wheel.

Considering the inaccuracies of speedos anyway (in my experience they over estimate speed anyway), I wouldn't be worried about such a small difference.

Its basically irrelevant. 0.9mph at 60mph oohh Theres more difference in diameter between new and hold tyres (15mm!)

And the speedo overreads by 10% anyway, so bringing it it back 1.4% isnt going to hurt.
