Zzz
Hiya just seen some 235/45/17 tyres with alloys on ebay. Are they ok for a 2004 A3? the ones i have at the moment at 225/45/17 many thanks
Paul
Apart from how it may/or may not effect your handling, it will alter the speedo reading. Running 235's instead of 225's speedo will read 1.4 % too slow. So if speedo reads 60 mph, your be doing 60.9 mph. Zzz
thanks for the reply. on the balance of 'clever' things to do, i guess this 235 tyre is probably best avoided then. i looked on the configuation page of Audi and they dont seem to have listed the 235 for the Audi A3, only the A4. many thanks
s3ollie
please could you tell me why 235 being the width of a tyre would make the speedo of a car out? diameter (17) is what dictates the rolling radius, therefore no change to speedo from change in width surely
Sponge
17 is the diameter of the rim, but you have to take into account the profile of the tyre too. The second number equates to the profile and is a ratio of the width. So it will make a difference to the overall radius of the wheel. Considering the inaccuracies of speedos anyway (in my experience they over estimate speed anyway), I wouldn't be worried about such a small difference. And the speedo overreads by 10% anyway, so bringing it it back 1.4% isnt going to hurt.
Mo-S3
I somehow ended up with them on my S3 for a short while, probably because they were damn cheap for Toyo's. Anyway they cause rubbing in the arches when on full lock. So give it a miss if i were you.
