Earlier today on my way to another lovely night shift looking after the drunk and stupid of South Lanarkshire ( I'm a paramedic by the way ), I noticed a lot of water flowing into the pass footwell while turning at a roundabout . Also there was a sloshing noise from the centre console. "Oh my what has happened here " I thought ( or words to that effect ) So into work and jumped on the net and Tyresmoke to find out the answer. And here it is. So tonight with the help of some medical equipment namely oxygen tubing and a 60ml syringe I managed to remove Wait for it 1. Around 350ml of water from the rear central airvents 2. Roughly 4000ml of water from under the heater motor in the engine bay. Yes I did say 4 LITRES. For the life of me I could not get to the tubes under there to clear them tonight so that might be a job for tomorrows night shift. Also seem to have cleared the interior drains as well ( hopefully ) The carpets are sitting in the boiler room drying out. This will probably be a job that needs done at least every month just to make sure they stay clear. Hopfully the car will not be like a steam room anymore when I put the heater on. As you can tell from the time and the lenght of this post that it has been quiet tonight. Thankfully as I did not fancy driving home in a bath tub. sutherland Posted October 28, 2009 Report Share Posted October 28, 2009 For the life of me I could not get to the tubes under there to clear them tonight so that might be a job for tomorrows night shift. Poking around with a coathanger will do that, but best to do it with the area under the plastic full of water (another 4 litres) because you'll know you've cleared the drains when the 4 litres pours out under the car. Thankfully another quiet nightshift and my tubes are clear :D Flooded the works garage floor in the process but managed to get the all cleared. Also found that I had a leak from my windscreen washers so that did not help. But thats also fixed. Need to keep an eye on them from now on. Barniepd Posted April 6, 2013 Report Share Posted April 6, 2013 Thanks Botang for finally clearing this up for me. I have struggled for months clearing drains, checking thr sun roof drains, trying to take the ECU out, clearing the Air con pipes etc etc. Thought I had cleared it the found that once again the carpets were soaking again. Tomorrow I am going to try and locate that "Botang Hole". The photos are great so here goes. Does any one think I will need to take the ECU out or can I block it with the ECU in place. My A8 is a 2000 facelift and only showed the problem last year. Guess I was luckier than some others. Once again thanks, I will report back. Barniepd Well for the best part of a month Ive had my car in rally mode, and been struggling to find the water leak. I managed to spare a bit of time this afternoon and I hope Ive sorted it.The water was geeting in through a hole in the bulk head, which was completely invisible at first. The hole was covered over with the original Audi seam sealer and only after removing the ecu, tcu, and whatever else cu that sits in the waterproof housing, the waterproof tray itself, some sound deadening material and the seam sealer could I finally work out how it was getting in. location of above Ive blocked it up now with a nut, bolt and silicone sealer, that should do the job Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Barniepd Posted April 14, 2013 Report Share Posted April 14, 2013 Now I know where the hole is I have sucessfully fixed the leak. Hooray!! I left the ECU in place and with some difficulty removed the sealant tape which was partially lifted. I then coated the head of a number plate screw (plastic to avoid corrosion) with Araldite and inserted it into the hole. A little more araldite to be sure and job done.
