I would say that adjustable chassis is paramount to a performance car the RS4 doesnt have one. The chassis not the engine is the key the RS4 has a great engine but sorry its AWD system is something Noah might have designed and the engine hangs out the front ,the cars also far to heavy and was the cars before it was ever built. No amount of electronic trickery can mask the poor initial design

Have you driven a car with decent AWD chassis Spec C , Evo range for example ? to comment on how good or poor Haldex and Torsen setups are ?

I just find it strange that a company that markets itself as being the daddies of AWD have let themselves fall so far behind the rest of the pack.

And I thought the RS4 was a performance car I guess I was wrong again.

So out of all the motoring journo's and others who have all rated the RS4 very highly, you come along (and to be honest i doubt you've even driven one) and magically , you're in a position to tell us it's rubbish.

So how did you manage to come out with that informed piece of information?.. and you really expect to be taken seriously? smashfreakB.gif

They didnt they all claimed it wasnt even as good as the near redundant M3 grin.gif As the chassis was greeat when pressing on and the cab version has again been slatted for its jeely like chassis.

Get your facts right

I obviously don't agree simon.

Torsen is by far the best system out there, As has been proven on many rally stages and race tracks. You cannot beat the simplicity of the system. If one wheel starts to lose traction then power is sent across the axle to other wheels where power can be applied.

I agree that haldex (or any other electronically controlled system) is not ideal. They take time to react and some-times give unexpected results. I had haldex in my V6 TT and whilst it's secure, i did find a big difference from the torsen in my RS6. And don't foget, torsen is capable of putting huge power through it.

Your implying that Haldex and torsen setups are good these days then?

Why the f**k did you buy one then? Handles better than the Golf GTI? What, even with it's rubbish quattro Haldex AWD system? I'd have thought you'd have bought something RWD that obviously handled better because it could drift, like a BMW M3 or something. Oh no, hang on, you had one of those and it was rubbish too, wasn't it?

So, have you driven the new RS 4? On a track? Have you offroaded a Q7? Have you tracked a new S8? Have you driven a TT? An A4, A6 or A8 quattro? Oh no, you've watched a TV show about how the M3 drifts better than an RS 4 and from that and your own experience in an Audi that you've got a downer on for it's "low rent plastics" that still didn't stop you buying it, you've come to the conclusion that all Audi AWD cars are terrible, and are obviously completely inferior to pretty much anything else.

I'm just so surprised you haven't got rid of the rubbish Audi and bought another Evo. You like them.

Why not do as I do; buy cars you like? You might find the whole ownership thing to be a far nicer experience that way. And you might be a bit less of a cock*, but I'm not so sure about that last one.

* Let's face it, leaping into a thread full of Audi owners and enthusiasts to slate quattro without much more than a motoring-themed entertainment show's piece on drifting to go on is rather a cockish move, isn't it? Ever noticed me slagging Evos or Imprezas off? Nope, because I don't know that much about them, so I keep my gob shut so that I don't look like a cock. That's a hint, BTW.

We can't be reading the same mags.. most i read said it was far superior, but they expected the V8 M3 to catch up.

Chris,

sorry to say that you would struggle to keep up in the RS6, even though it is chipped..

you just can't get away from the weight.. when i took mine on the track.. it is quick, but does understeer on the tight stuff.. it pushes the nose wide..

but the track is not it's home.. it is at it's best as an intercontentinal balistic missile.. going on a 200 mile trip, fast and comfortable, is when it is at it's best. 169144-ok.gif

I like the way you shoose the highest performance Audi and the middle ranking Evo there is a signicant difference between the 320 and 340 and to make things fair why didnt you post the Fq400's lap time ?

Evo claim

RS4 - 1:28.25

FQ340 - 1:24.55

F430 - 1:24.20

As you can see the evo destroys the RS4 at Bedford aurodrome because it handles so much better. The Evo also destroyed the RS4 and C4s in the group test in Evo again as it just handles so much better . They kept commenting on the Audis poor chassis and its apetite for understeer

You cant polish a turd but if you own it is the fastest and best rep mobile on the planet I guess

Abso-fecking-lutely! cool.gif

So you DO admit the Evo is crap? beerchug.gif

[/ QUOTE ]

Lol I will admit they look crap and the interiors are horrendous but they do go rather well and aernt prone to understeering for Britain either . Mine didnt fall apart like my 3 week old Audi is doing either.

I didn't post the FQ400's time as I was comparing cars of similar power to weight ratios? And as the FQ400 is only 0.5s quicker than the RS4 it isn't much really.

[/ QUOTE ]

And where would you rather be.. a comfortable, fast, executive saloon. Or a jap tin can with plastic my five year old wouldn't choose?
