Hey All,

I have an Audi S3 and am now looking to get a dump valve for it. I want it to sound really good and reasonably loud. Can anybody recommend the best one? I have been told not to buy a Baileys dump valve, and I have heard Turbosmart are good. Please help.

Also, will it cause any harm to my car by fitting a dump valve?

Thank you

Vent to atmosphere (whooshy) DV's wont work with the 1.8T, it will throw up engine management lights or make it run like a pig if you fit one.

As above you need a recirculating type Bailey, Forge and Hyperboost make these, an induction kit will help if you want to hear the woosh. From experience Forge are very good with excellent customer service and backup.

Please mate don't do it. Dump Valves are pointless look at me pieces of equipment and as stated before will effect the performance of your car in a detrimental way. DON'T DO IT

Effect performance? how do you get to that conclusion?

If mapped or even in standard form a decent valve will help the gear changes and help keep the boost on ready for the next gear. I got to this conlcusion by running tests with the standard one and a baileys, in a golf 1.8T and A3 1.8T.

I love all the negativity on here when someone is intrested in a product - if the TSN members don't approve youre sure to be made out to be a chav, you must consult the oldies first znaika.gif

Now listen here young man znaika.gif. DV that dispense excess spool pressure to atmosphere are not suited to the ecu. When they dump the air making that lovely whoosh heart.gif noise the ecu see's that the pressure has dropped and potentionly thinks there is a problem and can possibly go into limp mode. this was pointed out by other posters. If the dump valve, atmospheice, were that good why didn't they fit them as standard. Lecture over from a not so oldie. znaika.gif

Dump to atmosphere valves, are not well suited to the S3.

1. The existing system is designed for a recirculating Diverter Valve.

2. The ECU sets the fueling up knowing what air is in the system, as its been measured on the intake through the maf. Dump this measured air,it can sod up the fueling, and cause fault codes/limp mode.

3. They can actually hamper performance, as whilst the diverter valve is venting back into the system, its helping keep the turbo spun up, and reducing lag, for when your back on the power. A Dump valve which Vents it to fresh air, is counter productive.

4. Those that have fitted dump valves usually have to relocate them to get them to work (in their still ineffcient manner)

this means non standard engine bay, more joints and cut pipework, with potential for more boost leaks.

5. A less technically argued point,

they sound crap and are chavish.

Yes forgot to mention 'normal' valve won't cut it on the 1.8T, a re-circulating one will not have the bad effects mentioned above.

Original poster: Either way let me know which one you get (if you do), how it sounds and how it performs. 169144-ok.gif

I have a chipped A3 1.8T of which i am the fifth owner. Owner number 2 had the car chipped. Owner number four had a non-standard dump valve fitted. When I took the car to MOT it failed the emissions test. Only when a standard dump valve was fitted that my car passed its MOT. I was also told that the Dump valve ruined my air mass meter which had to be changed! My advice stick to the standard dump valve!

You dont have to stick to a standard diverter valve you can get a performance one but the only real benefit over the standard throw away plastic part is that it can be stripped and serviced. The confusion here stems from them being banded about as dump valves ie. a valve that dumps air. This is no good for an S3 and is what makes the whoosh noise. The S3 is set up for a diverter valve. A performance Diverter valve that as the standard part recirculates the air is A OK! 169144-ok.gif This wont really give you the sound you desire either though and as somebody said your better off with an induction kit if you want bangs and whistles.. Upgrade to a better diverter valve by all means (i have)

but it wont get you what you want, ie the chav noises.

they dont improve performance either, unless the one it replaces is knackered.

they are just a more robust part, that can be taken apart, inspected and serviced.

The oem ones are plastic fantastic and just get binned.
