I'm using 5% blend Biodiesel right now. Look here for your local distribution station. It's a little different to using vegetable oil, as Biodiesel is diesel made using rapeseed oil rather than crude petroleum oil. And it's manufactured to strict quality control criteria so there's no risk of damage to your engine due to water etc in the fuel.

It saves the earth by using renewable energy from rapeseed, rather than the dwindling resouces from the ground. You know, the stuff the Arab nations sell us when we run out of North Sea oil. Also, it has better lubricity qualities, less emmissions to worry about, is less toxic, and various other little differences. Nothing much to shout about really, but hell, why not, eh? cool.gif

i have emailed vw about this and i've had a reply also emailed biodiesel and had this responce

Thank you for your email. The answer regarding the use of biodiesel in your passat I am going to split into two. If you are planning to use 100% biodiesel then it would be best for you to speak to the VW dealer as I know that VW have developed some modifications for their PD diesel range for the use of 100% biodiesel. If however you are planning to buy it from a forecourt you will almost certainly be buying a blend of mineral diesel and biodiesel. Most forecourts retail a 95% mineral diesel and 5% biodiesel product which meets the current standard in the UK for all diesel fuel products.

The reason that you may have been warned away is that biodiesel is still relatively new to the UK and their is still a gap in peoples understanding. Media reports of motorists pouring cooking oil into their tanks to avoid fuel duty haven't helped either. However professionally made biodiesel products such as that supplied by Rix are safe and are made to the highest European standards which are recognised by all major motor manufacturers.

Hope this is of help?

In terms of your nearest forecourt I do not have the information to hand. Rix mainly operate in the North East of England and Scotland. Our regional distributor in your area is:

Caldo Oils Ltd

Worsely Brow,

Sutton,

St.Helens,

Merseyside,

WA8 3EZ

T: 0800 318437

You could give them a try to see if they are supplying a convenient site or have plans to bring new sites on.

Kind regards

Paul Burman
