Loki1974
Hello All I'm new to this forum but this is my last hope I have an A2 1.6 SE FSI. It is 2 1/2 years but almost from the word go it has no power when I'm pulling away. I have had it back to Audi and they say it runs fine. It can be quite hairy when I'm turning right or on a r-a-b and it stolls on to the road. Does anyone know what it may be otherwise it's going. danksy
It IS an A2 I have the 1.4Tdi, and it pulls ok Try getting a rolling road test done, this will show the power it is putting down. Alternatively try a different stealer, or try driving someone elses who has the same model Welcome to TSN Loki+++
Loki1974
Thanks Danksy I don't know anyone else who has one. I was thinking of finding another one in a dealers and test driving that! The car drives fine otherwise. What is a rolling road test? Loki
Nelson_R32
The power on these is VERY high up in the rev range, they generally do feel underpowered until you floor em (typical early FSi trait)
Loki1974
I'd been told that. The problem is the delay, I can have my foot heavy on the throttle but no revs kick in until its too late. I have had a few cars slow when I have tried to make a turn and it really annoys me as it is the cars that fails to deliver.
Chris_B
[ QUOTE ] The power on these is VERY high up in the rev range, they generally do feel underpowered until you floor em (typical early FSi trait) [/ QUOTE ] Test drive a tiptronic (C5) allroad TDI instead. Then you'll think your A2 flies off the line in comparison (my wife says the allroad is slow to get out of junctions compared to the A2)... bpsmith
What fuel are you using? My wife has the 1.4 non FSI model and picked this due to the 1.6 FSI requiring to be run on higher octane fuel such as Optimax, etc. A personal friend who works for Audi told me that the FSi cars just dont run right on anything other than high octane fuel. He has a new A3 2.0T FSI currently as a demonstrator and they tried normal fuel in it when stuck in a remote garage and it ran like a dog for a while afterwards until all the lower octane fuel had left the tank! Dont forget that the A2 runs on Drive By Wire throttle and can sometimes take a little while to rev correctly whilst the ECU tries to feather the throttle in. This often catches me out after driving other cars. Sorry if this is not of any help.
loddrik
My tdi is chipped and is nicely nippy as a result (about 100bhp)

grab8040
Hi The bad news is your A2 FSi is normal. Wife has 04 1.6FSi, 22000mile and it is exactly the same as yours. Checkout the threads on the A2 international owners club and you will see plenty of feedback the same. High Octance fuel is the way to go apparentlt although can't confirm this as we haven't yet run a couple of full tanks to prove this but it sounds logical. Others say ccc tech chipping is a good way to go but that is a bit drastic unless you are looking for 120bhp!
grab8040
Super unleaded has made a huge difference!
bpsmith
Thought as much! Well worth the extra cash for the difference it makes to the FSI engine. Will probably keep it running nicer also as plenty more cleaners in the Optimax and similar fuel. They feel they can sort of justify the extra price by adding things like that I guess!?! danksy
Glad its sorted Have you tried a Tdi?
shark_90
A 1.6FSi should be run on Optimax (only) as this is the only fuel with the correct agents in it to take advantage of the FSi's stratifying feature, which gives you the better MPG that a (real!) FSi engine can offer. I say real, because the newer FSi engines are just direct injection, they don't work in the same way at the FSi unit in the A2 and don't have the stratifying mode. Loki1974
Thanks to all who have made suggestions. I only ever put super unleaded in it, but still it was sooooo under powered. I sold it about 3 weeks ago for an apple and an orange!!! It felt too unsafe to keep hold of it, you really do need a little bit of umph to pull onto a r-a-b but the drag was too much too often. Again many thanks Loki
