On the Facelift 8L S3

The reflector is there.

The bulb holder is there.

The tracks are there.

Just the feed missing.

By the way, I do know what i am doing, including checking the legal regulations.

I havent worked for one of the largest multi national Automotive Lighting Manufacturers for the last 9 years for nothing.

Amongst others projects and manufacturers, I have built prototype bi-xenon headlights for the Jaguar S-Type.

The pair currently on the test car, are the only ones in the world. I made them.

Nor me.

If i can clearly see the car in front or behind, they are turned off.

Im happy that they know i am there.

If i am the end of the queue, and visability is poor, then they are on.

On all my old A3 8L 1.8T Sports there was certainly no reflector for the LH side rear fog light - they must have changed it on the facelifted versions.

I know that EU regulations allow for one or two rear fog lights but if you have driven in Germany or many other European countries other than the UK in thick fog, most other cars on the road only have one.

I personally find it much easier to see the car in front's brake lights if it only has one rear fog light. I find that two creates such a bright red glow that it's easy to miss the brake lights. Perhaps it would be better if the regulations required them to be further apart than 100mm.

Slightly off the subject, but still to do with lights, as you have woked with current car headlights, why is it so difficult to get 'Bi-Xenon' headlight adjusted to drive on the Right. What I would like is to be able to drive to the Channel tunnel in the dark with UK headlights, then change them myself for driving in Europe. It that so difficult to achieve.

Bi-xenon is just a electrically operated shutter.

The dip beam xenon just stays on all the time, and shutter alters the beam pattern.

As for driving abroad, again this is just a manually operated shutter on our headlights, But it is down to the car manufacturers specs if this shutter is included or not.

Bear in mind, that for some manufacturers, there are some 30 varients of lights, from Israel to Europe

Thats 30 varients for left, and 30 for right!

Some of the manufacturers also spec longer handles on the levers, where the housings and internals allow, which obviously helps the European travler.

Personally id like to see an electrical option, like the Bi-xenon function, but i doubt it will happen .

A. Cost.

B. Lighting is going LED, so they will probably be able to turn On and Off led array to create the beam pattern required.
