Paul
Id like to thinks so, But tbh, i would be guessing. Hope you get it sorted.
Sebastian
The airbag control modules back in those days were pretty weird and according to what we've seen over the last years it's a good idea to get the other stuff sorted before actually taking care of the 65535. OTOH you may experience that this code will stay even after you fixed the other one, then you need a new module. Sadly you havn't posted an Auto-Scan or similar which includes the control module part number and other related details, so it's hard to tell you real details. FWIW, if it comes to the point where you need to replace the module, make sure that you get a NEW module from a dealer - do not try to fix it with used or refurbished modules. s3ollie
thanks ill try and post an auto scan but i dont think i can do it as it stop half way through and say i need to register vagcom. ill give it a go Ps do you know where the module is? is it in front of the gear stick in the center console? Sebastian
One of the "famous" Airbag Generation 8 modules. We've seen issues like that in the past and there is usually only one way to get rid of that - buy a new control module. At least according to what we have seen, it seems that these faults are caused by under voltage at cold starts and/or by starting the car up after a dead battery. As mentioned by others before, fix the normal airbag fault and try to clear codes but I doubt you'll get rid of the 65535. If you need to replace the control module get a new one, Audi has replaced the 8L0-959-655-G with an 8L0-959-655-L, which has updated hardware and software. s3ollie
thanks for the info sebastian. Does anyone know what sort of price im looking at for a new module? is it as easy as just fitting the new one or it or will it need coding ect....?
Sebastian
The good news is, the price for these came way down a couple of month ago, so it's now somewhere around 300 EUR (excl. VAT). After fitting it does require coding, but that should not be a problem - just take the coding of the old module.
s3ollie
i have found this module on ebay for a audi A3 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Audi-A3-1997-2003-...1QQcmdZViewItem it has the letter J after the the number, would this be ok for a replacement or will i have to get the L one. the faulty one i have is a G
Sebastian
The 8L0-959-655-J would be compatible, but it has been replaced the 8L0-959-655-L too so I would not suggest to get the 8L0-959-655-J. The new L module is 200 GPB vs the used one for 160 GPB, IMHO not worth it - especially since I would never trust a used module.

Paul
If your not aware, Sebastian is based in the US. Id not want to trust a second hand airbag controller either. Try sending www.vagparts.com an email with the part number and as much info about your car model/year etc as possible.
Sebastian
[ QUOTE ] If your not aware, Sebastian is based in the US. [/ QUOTE ] Actually I'm not. Magdeburg, Germany Anyway, the prices I mentioned were the German ones, so it's a bit strange why they are that much higher in the UK.
