I'll ask when I am down there on the 9th of September but I think I may go back to my original plan.... sekret.gif

You might want to keep shtum or wear a disguise P_G??

Odd, because if you have a look at AMD's website they have a cut away diagram of the RS4 disk and caliper behind the S4 Avus wheel!

Good thinking Batman.......however if you trawl through the A4/B6/B7 forums in Audizine there are numerous references to the B7 RS4 Big brakes not being suitable for B6 platform A4/S4 18" alloys in any shape or form. 169144-ok.gif

would S4-2004 car brakes be a good upgrade and fit ok on my 1.8T s-line quattro?

i have 18" 5arm alloys

Kenny I would advise you to seek advice from one of the many aftermarket big brake kit suppliers / workshops as this subject is best left to the experts. There are many issues which could surface should one take, and act upon the wrong advice... 169144-ok.gifbeerchug.gif

yeah i will do, was offered a set of (B6)s4 brakes thot they may work well

[/ QUOTE ]

I was after some of those a while back for my B5 S4. In the end I did as others have and went for B5 RS4 setup. I would think it would be a resonable upgrade on a B5 S4 and B6 A4's. I've been told the B7 A4's have B6 S4 brakes as standard but haven't looked into it myself

169144-ok.gif Both offset and internal running surface clearences are critical to the success of the brake upgrades as all OEM and independent brake set manufacturers vary accordingly. In some circumstances there may be a need to fit spacers to compensate, which to some including me is a no no. OEM for OEM might be a walk in the park but beware!!! beerchug.gif169144-ok.gif

Not that I am aware, if so, what does the B7 S4 have? The configurator says the same as the B6 S4 as nothing else will fit in the rims.

I know for a fact that one of the guys on RS246.com has RS6 calipers and RS6 discs fitted behind B6 18" Avus wheels. The calipers are mounted on special brackets to be able to use the RS6 discs. This may or may not give him more clearance (I think the RS6 discs are more inset) but also gives the advantage of using the better RS6 disc. The new RS4 uses the same disc on the left or right of the car so are not properly directional. Give MRC tuning a call as they have done this conversion many times.

Seeing a potential solution to my age old problem I contact MRC. They responed today with this :

I have never fitted brakes to a B6. I beleive the B7 RS4 brakes go straight on. I am not sure if you need spacers though. This setup also goes on the b5 but most cars need spacers. On the B5 we use custom brackets with RS6+ discs as they sit further in the car so do not require spacers on 18s. They do require a small bit of metal taken off the lower hub though.

If you want, I can get a set in and we can trial fit to your car to see what fits and what does not.

Have I misread Mark B's post or is there confusion somewhere? confused.gif

Right to clear some things up,

1)You can fit the RS6/RS4 brake upgrade behind the 18" Avus wheel

2)The difference in braking is somewhat better to say the least

3)It will also fit with the standard B5 RS4 wheels

4)It will fit the B5 S4 with 18" wheels

5)You don't need new brake lines with the RS6 calliper as their is only a few degrees of difference of the angle of the line exit from the calliper.

Not that I don't believe you Will but how do you know all this?

It does make the whole csenario appealing if it is true. The question then is though do you fit B7 RS4 disk and calipers of RS6 ones? Which is better?. And should you also fit braided lines?

I've been in both B5 S4/B5 RS4/B6 S4 with the brake conversions on them.

I think that it is just that bit easyer when you use the RS6 calipers over the B7 RS4 ones, for one you don't have to use different lines when useing the RS6 calipers.

As for braided lines well I suppose when your spending just over a grand on the rest of the kit then £60 for lines won't kill the bank.

As for knowing all this well, I don't work so I have to spend my time at something lol.gif

BTW the pic is of the RS6 caliper/RS4 disc behind an 18" Avus wheel on a B5 S4
