hixster
Just came back from a day out and was super low on fuel and taking really easy... granny style..because I didn't know where the next garage was. managed 34.7mpg average.. was wondering what the best MPG you guys are getting now?? I'm usually averaging about 18, but was really surprised that I could get nearly 35 out of the car!
Oatz
I managed to get an average of 34.9mpg's on Friday after being stuck behind a slow moving lorry for eternity.... most I've ever seen in any car!
dogbucket
early one morning on the way to work I averaged 36.6mpg (for the first 20 miles until I hit traffic). Got a pic of it on my old phone somewhere I was so amazed.

rs32
was getting over 40 as we left Portchester on Sat eve but soon got it back down to 20 again by the time we got to Brighton Best normal example is around the 33 mark.
jimmyp
I've seen 30.0mpg on the display before, quite surprising for my car really but its usually around the 26mpg on the motorway and round town its useless...
RossG
I cheer loudly on the rare occaision that I see a trip average of 30 Motorway runs see about 26mpg, my commute is 23 and town driving is about 17. My overally average since the new engine was fitted hovers around the 23 mark. Not great really, but hey ho - it's part of the fun...

RossG
[ QUOTE ] Same here Ross, i think this new lump isn't as good as the old one... [/ QUOTE ] I think this one for me is better. It feels smoother and more punchy - and is a whole 1 mpg less thirsty than the old one Certainly, at the recent Scotland / NE meet - Geo was stretching the legs on his 30k (I think) car - and I was sitting right there on his arse. So if that's with mine having only done about 2k miles - I'm kind of hoping there is some loosening up to come
jimmyp
Sounds to me your onto a winner there Ross, i think generally mine is just a bad car as its in again tomorrow for yet another clutch/flywheel and whatever else is wrong
RossG
I wouldn't go that far - visiting the dealer agian on Thursday to have new cooling fans fitted Hopefully Warranty Direct will cover it [fingers crossed smiley] Fingers also crossed that you get yours sorted. You must have the least reliable R32 there is. I'm surpirsed you have stuck with it for as long as you have

Decked
Jimmy, Your R is a new as a MKV R (or even newer), everything on it has been replaced!!! Once someone looks at it and realises it's brand new, I'm sure you'd get a good offer...

Oatz
I've just been away for a long weekend in Cornwall and my average for the 250 miles trip down there was 28.something and on the way back it was 27.9 (recently had a new MAF fitted within the last 2000 miles). Pretty happy with that as I was not hanging around.....
25thAnni
Just completed a 450 mile round trip to V Festival & sitting steadily between 80-90 managed 32MPG, pretty impressed with that
Oli
Jesus, that is good, I did a 450 mile trip last week in my GTI at similar speeds, and averaged juster under 34MPG!!!!
25thAnni
Like i said Oli i did take it very easily, only slightest depressions of the accelerator pedal when increasing speed & oddly light M6 traffic between 7-9am I drove purposefully like this to see what i could achieve & bearing in mind my engine has only 1100 miles on it so it may increase another 1 maybe 2 MPG when it loosens up
VRO6MO
my best ever MPG is about 32 after a 'quick' motorway run, the true test is when i'll doing a much longer run at end of september.
RedRobin
I'm amazed by these R32 mpg reports. I've always thought that the .:R was much heavier on fuel than the GTI (I'm lucky to reach 29mpg on my Mk5 GTI).

25thAnni
29 I'm finding thus far (as running in) is that you can just plod around in 5th/6th with ease & get excellent MPG.... this considering your pulling around something that weighs around the size of a small country
AGK512
that's pretty amazing mpg. mine has done 3k. On last 450 mile trip which was 80% motorway and cruise I got about 28. in country lane 50mph mobile traffic jams I get low 30's Which on here seems to be about the norm ? That is 'loaded up' by the way
