Throttle Body Reset

Does this work on a GTI?

In theory, the following has some magical effect on the performance of ones car. Don't ask me why, but it clears something in the 'gubbins' of the ECU, thus releasing lost BHP.

Well what you do is: Turn everything electrical off first.

Turn ignition to position that would bring your electrics on (but you have turned them all off), but don't start the car.

Leave it in this position for 30 seconds (some say 3 min) then turn off. You might be able to hear the ECU doing things to the engine?

Fire up the car and unleash the true power of the GTI?

I am not saying that it works, but being an ex TT owner, some on their forums reckoned it worked if the throttle body needing reset rather than using VAG-COM?

Don't ask me why, how, what...as I don't have a clue, just passing on a tip used by the TT folk.

I sometimes do this on the TT especially when I've been pootling a lot in traffic. May be in my mind but after times like this it sometimes makea a difference. Alternate is lend the car to someone and let them drive it like they are on track, that seems to wake up a few things..... grin.gif Alternative is that Vag-Com can be used to reset it on the TT, as Wak kindly did at Gaydon for me. 169144-ok.gif

It was something recommended that you do monthly. Most of the time it has no effect, but on the odd occasion, folk have reported improvements.

I did mine last night and there was a 'whirring' noise, but I live in an urban area so hard to assess if there was any noticeable improvement.

Something to make you think about anyway?
