Rustynuts
Emmissions workshop light should go out when the problem is fixed. To reset the service indicator.... Link.
rainsford1
Thanks for the info on the service indicator...try it tomorrow On the emissions isssue, the car had a misfire so to investigate the problem i removed the engine cover to expose the coil i noticed a smell and eventually smoke from the coil...with the ignition on. I replaced the coil and run the engine with no issues, except the emissions workshop light stayed on. I just assumed that the fault codes stored would have to be removed. Next question is why the "emissions workshop" light remains on...the car runs fine?
Rustynuts
You'll need to connect the car to a computer system such as Vag com to read the fault code stored in the memory. This will guide you to what the fault is.
benjie
Take the car for a spin, when it's warmed up, give it a good drive, lots of revs, through the gears. This may sort it. It did on my friend's 1.4 16V Polo
