NewNiceMrMe
What I mean by this is simple. My neighbours think I'm mad. They may have a point. I spent 4-5 hours every weekend on the car, then often wash the wheels mid-week if its possible. My immediate neighbour thinks I'm crazy. The house next to her never wash their cars - ever, and often comment that I'll wash the car away and the usual tripe. Do you have neighbours who regularly wash their cars? Do you suffer from the same? Is it just us? Only one guy near me washes his car by hand. One household. Out of about 20. The rest are either dirty or must go through a car wash or hand-wash establishment of some form. What's your road like?
Ritey
I've only spoken to one of my neighbours since i've moved in, and I've not seen anyone else wash their cars, so I bet they all think I'm weird
Calm Chris
Nice post One of the reasons the R32 got keyed twice was likely to be the chav mongrels watching a saddo wash his car by hand 6 times a month and detail it inside and out every 3 weeks, on the street, near the house. My neighbours thought I was very extreme and always made comments. Sometimes I used to drive to Ikea which has a underground free car park (so could work on her while it's raining and sodium light is good for cleaning vision). There I could spend 5+ hours cleaning and detailing the car without sarcastic comment from neighbours. Normal car owners just don't comprehend the need to make sure the car looks it's absolute best
sayerbloke
Now I think about it, seeing anyone other than someone from my household washing their cars is quite rare around here.
Arch
One set of neighbours has a firm to do their cars. The other set has just inquired about this firm, never seen them car clean in the 3 years i've been in there. Across the road we have 'sad act' as we named him. Out there every weekend , does both cars, has a nearly empty garage extremely tidy and organised and a spotless front garden. Me? Well, i think it's been washed twice this year. Not due to laziness, just that I consider my weekend or whatever spare time more precious to spend with wifey and baby girl and partly that I have a lot of trouble with my right arm at the moment. I can just about manage a wash without it aching to badly. My paint at the moment is hideous so it's either pay someone else to do sort it or buy a PC. Neither of which are priorities right now. S3ENVY
I never see any of my neighbours washing their cars except my immediate (2 Rovers) and a girl over the road (MR2). They spend nowhere near as much time as me though....the Rovers get a brush on the end of a hose, paint looks nice and dry, the MR2 gets a bucket and sponge. Mine gets a day of pampering with different products for each section and I finish well into the evening, not every weekend mind.... ...."You'll have no paint on it if you keep on like that!".... Sod-off.
Snail
Most of my neighbour's cars only get washed by the dealer at service time. I do get some dodgy comments when i wash in light drizzle, but usually its the old "mine next" or "you'll polish the paint off". Still cant understand having >£10k sitting on your driveway, and treating it soo badly.

[/ QUOTE ] I'm similar, as if they think I'm out of my mind...then they all say well done then ask me to do theirs !! I have to say, most folk around here keep their cars clean with a weekly wash but as for "detailing", no chance !!

Agoogy
My neighbours, either side and opposite all wash by hand with a bucket... I'm the only one that then goes into clay/polish/wax/wheel/tyre/hoover/leather/glass mode...twice monthly I feel quite self conscious about it... but it doesn't stop me, the results speak (to me) for themselves. My mates admire and the dedicated few ask for info on what to get and where and why etc. Agree with above...2nd biggest purchase of your life and then...I know! I'll let it rot outside! madness. Hudster
My rather chunky female neighbour came out whilst I was claying my car and said “aah you’re cleaning your car, I should do that really, but how did you get it clean without a hose?” When I pointed to the bucket in front of her she just giggled and said that it would be too much effort to carry it down the steps to the car park. There's only about 12 steps, no wonder she’s so bloody fat

djcool
I'm sure my neighbours think I'm mad. I wash the car about once a week, but wipe it over after every journey and its now always kept under a car cover to keep off the bird poo, dust and the mess my cat leaves on the paintwork. Don't usually get any comments, but sometimes I do feel a little bit self-concsious about putting the cover on when my neighbours are around! Chris_B
Well, seeing as I don't wash my car anywhere near as often as I should, nobody seems to really notice on how often it's done or not, but sometimes when I'm washing it at unusual times of day (usually an hour before dinner time, when it's a two hour or more job), I get a few raised eyebrows. One of my neighbours washes his cars every Sunday, and my good friend and ex-neighbour, who used to be in the army and therefore has a major cleaning obsession, washes his cars pretty much every day. He's a driving instructor, so the school car is understandable, but he's just as bad with his other cars, then his driveway gets swept and washed, and I'm sure he'd vacuum it if he thought nobody would call the men in white coats. NewNiceMrMe
I've washed mine twice in one day on a number of occasions. Thats when I've washed it early, gone out in it, decided I couldn't stand the brake dust and flies on it from the journey, and then washed it again... pritesh
My neighbours think im crazy as I wash my cars every week so one full day of the weekend goes with washing, polishing, and inside cleaning. I have never ever seen anyone on my street wash their cars except me...they all go to a car wash and only when they really really need to. I think most pay the 5 quid at Brent Cross Shopping centre to have them washed. I'd never let those folk near my motor! over my dead body!

Cagey
I hate it when my neighbours catch me kneeling at the end of my driveway polishing my tips with a deft wrist action! Most of my street don't really bother with their cars, apart from one guy with a nice 964. For anyone else that does occasionally venture outside with a bucket and sponge, thats exactly as far as they go - bucket and sponge. Wax? Thats, like, hair stuff innit? No-ones ever commented, but I'm sure they all think what a mentalist I am. But I don't care - as already mentioned, why neglect something that has cost so much money? [/ QUOTE ] That's the real point. I think most folk who don't care for their cars don't pay for them directly. They're company vehicles and therefore they get treated differently. Each to their own but apart from buying a house, it's the second biggest expense for me, hence I look after my "investment" as best I can.

NickHodgson
I do get some funny looks when I'm out washing the cars and the garage is open, they must think "nice clean cars, tidy garden, clean and painted garage - what a saddo". I just look up smile and say hello. It will be nice in the winter though when I can drive straight out without having to de-ice the car!

[/ QUOTE ] I'm glad I'm not the only one who does this! I'm pretty sure most of my neighbours think I'm insane; I hear comments such as "why are you washing it again, it's not even dirty?" etc. regularly, as well as more sarcastic remarks. They just don't understand that keeping a car prime takes hours of effort. The ironic thing is that the neighbours who invariably come out to chat to me whilst I'm working on the car - slowing me down and distracting me in the process - are the very same ones who take the p*ss later on when I'm still out there trying to get it finished in the dark...
