ncr666
I wash my car by hand every weekend without fail, a couple of others wash theirs by hand to but not as regularly. The rest just don't seem to bother or use the car wash. One guy on our street has a pristine "showroom" car and I see him take the wheels off to wash it. ncr666
S3Bangs
A friend of mine came to see me on a Saturday about two weeks ago. As he came with his girlfriend, he said he wanted to have a gander around the development and see how much some new flats were going for up the road. About an hour later he came back and said, "I saw a friend of mine up the road and he lives in this complex" I asked him, do i know him? He said no, but he knows you quite well. Baffled I asked him, how does he know me? He said his friend said.. "I know that guy, the one who's obsessed with washing his car"... Geez!! I've never felt so proud!! I bet all the other neighbours think the same too.. s

Scotty
I'm sure my neighbours think I'm mad. I finished installing a link from my TomTom to my radio (sounds goes through the hifi speakers now) at 22:00 tonight. I was doing in the dark with an inspection light. The biggest problem was all the daddy long legs thinking the sun was rising in my car!
cabby
Gonna stick my neck out here and say that, whilst I've always looked after my cars I have never washed more frequently than once a week, more like twice a month. Since the baby arrived its closer to 1 every 2 months . If one of my neighbours washed their car twice a week/every day/twice a day I'd think they had far too much time on thier hands. If you work five+ days and you like your car that much why not just drive it instead of cleaning it when you get the time ?

EssFour
Wash mine about once a week and get some funny looks. Most Germans here tend to use the drive-in car wash. This is regardless of what car they drive. Once saw a someone in a maserati Spyder go through one.

If I had to choose between the two I would go for the Albanians everytime. At least you can instruct them how you want it doing.
P_G
You must have a better class of Albanians then EssFour than the ones here. You tell them and then they just do what the hell they like. I asked mine if they used brushes 'no sir definitely not' Sitting there, car all soaped up using pressure hose and then washed with.... BRUSHES! Can't get out because they are washing and risk of soap getting on the interior and myself by opening the door. Had to Megs Stage 1, 2 & 3 the car the Lady P_G's annoyance as I had said I was taking it to the Albanians to save time.
EssFour
I would still rather take the risk of someone washing my car than putting it through a car wash. Period. Lesser of the two evils IMO. Personal preference is to roll up my sleeves.
Shadowman
I've certainly had a few comments about how often I clean my car and about being obsessed with removing bird poo. My colleagues at work that go outside to smoke in the car park even send me text alerts on my mobile if they spot any fresh poo on it! One funny incident happened a couple weeks back. I was out washing the car and a couple walked by the end of my drive taking their little kid, who was probably about 4, to the park. The boy seemed interested that I was using 2 buckets. Anyway, they came back around an hour later and I was still at it. The kid commented that my car was looking clean and that it was taking a long time to wash it. His mother said that both their cars at home were filthy because "Mummy doesn't wash cars". "No", said the boy, "just floors!". With me it's the other way around - car is clean, floors leave a lot to be desired!
Brazo
I think mine must have given up a long time ago I used to get loads of comments and now they just ignore me walking past with an almost disgusted look as I try the next product combo on my car! swil00
Well mine probably think I've got better as in the last year as I've not had as much time to spend on cleaning cars... What they don't know is that last weekend when I spent 3hrs just washing the car...... Well that was just a wee warm up as today I finally got round to ordering a PC kit...... NeilScarrott
I recently spent the best part of three days on my A4 cleaning everything and doing a complete deswirl, got some really bad looks, especially from a youngish mum who kept giving me the "if i was your girlfriend, you would be cleaning the house and not that car" look. My immediate neighbours have almost accepted it now.
TDiAvant
Yep I get the comments, you’ll wash the paint away etc, etc. But in the last 4 days I’ve had 4 different Audi’s sat on my drive and everyone was cleaned inside and out, as I cannot stand a dirty car on my drive way. I will be out tonight as well washing the S4.

Tarmac_Terrorist
My neighbours drive around in filthy sheds that they only clean every 5-6 months. There's one bloke who comes across the road for a chat every time I'm on the drive cleaning the cars. He stays around for half an hour every time. He has nothing better to do! It really winds me up and I end up spending much longer than I should to do the job. My wife has started coming to the from door holding th phone so I can get away from him. Winds me up so much but the guy means well I'm sure all the neighbours must think I'm mad but who cares - it's my hobby-they probably don't even have one
Johna1
I now think its funny when people passing see me out there every other day. Just think at least your going around in a car that looks brand new all of the time and there going around in swirled and digustingly dirty cars with baked black wheels from brake dust. Paddy_Driver
TT, I can understand the frustration re the neighbour coming for a chat - its usually just as you have put on the wax, and by the time they leave it is hardened like concrete! Not that I dislike a neighbourly chat... but not during waxing Paddy
