adwhitworth
I did this a little while ago but never posted any pictures up. I got the official Audi Kit and got the paint mixed up at Halfrauds using the paint code (they didn't have it pre-done on the shelf) as it was done on a Sunday so didn't bother going to Audi but it's an exact match. You can't see anything at all in the boot as all the wiring and control unit are concealed behind the bumper and trim inside. Wiring is also very easy to do and instead of using the heatshrink crimps, I got some Scotchlock things from Halfrauds too which made life a lot easier. I know a couple of you having been asking for pictures so here you go: Need to do some more Retrofits really but just can't decide what.
TDiAvant
Very Nice Are the holes marked out on the other side of the bumper?
adwhitworth
Yup. There's a circle with a + in the middle of it. The manual recommends a 20mm forstner bit but we found it wasn't quite big enough so got a titanium cone bit and extended the hole a little further and it left an incredibly neat edge too. You just have to get a hacksaw to chop a little recess for the sensors to fit into.
kite
Does it also give you the switch in the dash ?
shark_90
I didn't know you'd done that, I'm just about to do it myself! kite - no need for a switch, you only get a switch for front park assist.
TDiAvant
looks like another retro fit kit is going on order
adwhitworth
Yup Ben is correct. It just activates when you stick it in reverse gear. It's a pretty good retrofit really as excluding painting it only take around 1-2hrs depending on how quickly you can work out how to get the bumper off (It was my first time
paul_tdi
Neat job mate! Defo gonna get it done sometime when the pennies have been saved up! Looks nice and neat.
MarskeBear
yip, very nice, i will be interested in this too. Really should have got it as standard(not for me of course i can judge but for the good lady...)
paul130TDI
Great job, ive often thought about doing it but the only thing always putting me off is removing and replacing the bumper and getting it to align up properly when refitting it. Is this an issue with the A4 bumper, and is there any difference with the 05 bumpers.
adwhitworth
I don't know about the B7 shape but on my B6, once you've worked out where all the screws/bolts are it's incredibly easy.
kite
was asking about the switch, need to do this to daughter's A3
AvantSE
How does this compare to other retrofit kits? Would it have to be an Audi kit, or is there sufficient space behind the bumper to fit any type of sensors?
adwhitworth
There is plenty of room but all the holes are marked specifically for the Audi kit - if you can find anything with a 20mm approx hole though then there is no reason why it would not fit. MGquattro
Neat Job One question ,what wiring is required for this? Does it need Vag-coming to tell the car its there ? Many thanks Mike
adwhitworth
You don't need VAG-COM at all. All you need is some form of drill bit (I'd be recommend a cone bit), some other tools to get the bumper off and everything else in the box. The way the system is activated is by taking the power from the reverse lights. When you select reverse gear, it switches on the lights and then you hear a beep. To set the system up you just need a wall or something to back up against but it needs to be none-metallic.

TyreA4C
Finished installation on a Cab today using the Audi retrofit kit. If you are thinking of doing this yourself I would suggest that you use a holesaw rather than a forstner bit as suggested in the instructions. The holesaw also guarantees against drill wander that can very easily happen with the forstner bit on a flexible bumper cover and hand held drill. TDiAvant
How much was the kit?
TyreA4C
£180 + paint You will also needed a couple of feet of red and black wire to extend buzzer cables on the Cab. http://www.audi-accessories.co.uk/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=
TDiAvant
Did you paint them yourself?
TyreA4C
The painting was easy - the paint was from Audi so came as a two pack which consisted of base color and lacquer. The kit also includes little rings to ensure that limited paint is applied to the insulation between parts of the sensors. The main difficulty for me was trying to remove the rear seat to install the buzzer (note that I have the Cab and had to run cable behind the rear seat to the buzzer location that is mid way between and just aft of the rear headrests). Removal of the rear bumper was not much fun but it was the first time and had I knew what I know now then this would also have been clear sailing. I can’t say anything about the other aftermarket kits but the Audi kit is nice quality.
adwhitworth
Wiring was fine on the saloon but can't say I had much spare so I can see why this is needed. We used a Bosch 20mm holesaw on the first one but didn't quite find the hole big enough which is why we switched to the cone bit for the rest. TDiAvant
so is the paint included in the kit?
adwhitworth
Nope. I got a can of spray mixed up at Halfrauds on their computer thing for about a fiver. Audi don't open on a Sunday but it was a perfect match anyway!
