AvantSE
Any chance you could outline where the bumper bolts etc. are mate? I am about to attempt something similar on my car.

AvantSE
Cheers, maybe it isn't as bad as it looks. If I can get some paint mixed today, I might have a go at it tomorrow.
adwhitworth
Audi will probably have the colour ready mixed if you can be bothered to go to the stealer. Halfords can make it up while you wait.
AvantSE
Managed to get some paint mixed today as I was passing a Halfords on the way to somewhere else. Tomorrow is the big day all being well, not looking forward to taking the bumper off but I don't suppose it will take too long. I take it you have to remove the trim panels on each side? paul_tdi
I fitted a towbar a while back and had to take the bumper off and I had to take the interior side trims off to get the access to the necessary bolts. Wish I did the sensors at the same time really! Good luck!
adwhitworth
I had to remove the interior trims but in the saloon it was a doddle.
paul_tdi
In the saloon when u removed the bumper did the alloy insert come out at the same time or was the outer cover independant of the alloy unit?
AvantSE
Finally completed my parking sensor fit on the Avant today. Took me about 3.5 hours all told, apart from painting. I bought a cheap kit from eBay and am pleased to say it works perfectly. It even included the 21mm hole cutter. Fitting to the Avant was quite an involved task, needing the rear side trims to be removed in the boot, along with the amp/sub, and sill trim. There were 5 nuts either side holding the bumper on, plus 2 bolts in each wheel arch, removal of mudflaps, and a few bolts underneath where the plastic undertray fixes. I positioned the control box behind the n/s boot trim panel, along with the beeper - which is perfectly audible from the drivers seat. Kit cost about £33-34 inc. postage and I probably spent about £16 on plastic primer and the Crystal Blue mixed paint.
TyreA4C
Who was the kit manufacturer? and did the instructions say anything about how it might cope with an automatic gearbox. I've just fitted an audi set to my A4 Cab and now the motherinlaw wants some and i'm not sure what is or is not a good make. She has a Mazda 323. paul_tdi
I should imagine most kits will work with an automatic as the switching is more often than the control is done by the reversing lights.
TyreA4C
I understand that some kits have control units that incorporate a delay so that when you shift from Park to Drive (and in doing so pass Reverse) the unit does not spring into action due to the reverse lights momentarily comming on. paul_tdi
Good point! I fitted a kit some time ago and the actual power was taken from the reverse lights too so when no reverse lights no sensors! Good luck in getting some!
adwhitworth
The proper Audi one has a 1-2 second delay. Did not have to remove the Alloy insert.
AvantSE
Mine was a cheapy off eBay, a Cisbo one I think. It works off the reversing light so would work OK on an auto, but I don't think it has a delay (not impt. on mine anyway). I had to remove the alloy strip (attached to a plastic sill) to get the black plastic side panels out of the way. Maybe you can remove them without, I don't know, but I thought it would make it easier. It only involved undoing 4 bolts.
AvantSE
Just on the subject of parking sensors, has anyone fitted front ones to an A4? I know they're not quite so necessary as the rear ones but it's another gadget

mcgough
Not bad 'avantse' £50 all in eh?? I remember last time when i fitted the s-line body kit there was a lot of screws/bolts so i might fit a parking kit, when i have the bumper off to do the twin exhaust system again. adwhitworth
The front ones are a little bit harder if you want the OEM retrofit look as you need quite a few more parts. If you don't mind, there are plenty of aftermarket kits I believe.
