UKLooney
Hi guys, MkV R32 owner looking for some help. I'm planning on fitting the gen2 haldex controller to my R32 which allow me to select the mode of operation for the 4wd system (normal/sport) via a switch. The current switch offering is a bit naff (aftermarket tak), so I was hoping to use one of the blank slots next to the ESP/Tyre Warning buttons just in from the the gearstick. I've been told that the MkV GTI with DSG has an additional button there, which the R32 does not have, this is marked W-ON (Winter On switch for DSG box). Anyways, I popped up to my local dealers parts shop today hoping to source one of these. After 20mins of looking on his computer, the said switch/buttons part no could not be found. The guy behind the desk suggested that if I could get a hold of the chassis no. or registration plate no. of a GTI with this switch fitted he should be able to find the part no. If anyone can help, I would be very grateful. Cheers

skifly
aparrently the switch is called a "Push Button Switch for Vehicles with Drive-off assistance" as told to my by a parts guy. Shame he wouldnt give a part number though! Maybe MattR can have a word about this and get us some prices. The guy i spoke to reckoned it would be around £10 - £15 ish. rs32
the "W On" button would indeed look very good if compatible with the Haldex unit and the part number can be found have also been looking at installing a Haldex switch, thought something like this might do the job if the full unit hides away nicely into the transmission tunnel. Also have no idea whether the electrical ratings are suitable Quite like the idea of a key operation for the handling mode.
UKLooney
Was quoted £12+vat for another low tyre pressure warning button, guy couldn't find the wiring loom for it though. I'd imagine it's a push button and not a switch, therefore not suitable in its original state for use with the haldex. Gonna hook up a bank of micro relays to give me the switch action required. Found a couple of gttdi dsg's on autotrader and nabbed a license plate no from there. Picked a '2005 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF 2.0 GT TDI 5dr DSG Diesel Hatchback', hopefully this has the button... Will give the guy a call in the morning.
UKLooney
Popped into the dealers again today with the Reg nos I'd blagged off Autotrader, the pic posted above and info about the 'drive-off assistance'. Still couldn't find any reference to the button. Had a scout around the various models on the forecourt and showroom with no luck. Any progress with your VW chum skifly?? skifly
yep - they are on back order at the factory. I have the fundage down for one but they reckon it could quite easily be 6 weeks to get one!! They found it really easily once i told them it was the drive off assistance button on the GT. I will have to get them to give me a part number for it.
