Hey guys, I just got my 2008 Gti in Feb this year. The front tires are gettin on the low side now so it's almost time to change. I've read through this thread and seen no mention of Michellin Pilot Exalto PE2's. Thats what I have on at the moment.

I've been thinking about the Eagles for a while but I'm wondering if anyone has compared these against each other?? These seem pretty good so far but are a little on the noisy side.

I've recently installed a Bluefin map and now it's hard not to spin in 1st, 2nd n 3rd!! In the wet that is! Still, I'm made up with the performance increase!!

Is the general consensus that Goodyear Eagle F1's Asymmetrics are the all round favorites?

Hi,

Ive got 4 contisport2s on my mk5 gti but my rear 2 need replacing due wtl.

The only issue is I think I have a problem with my driver front tyre as Im sure im hearing a whoop whoop whooop sound (which increases in speed with the car) coming from that wheel.

To throw a spanner in the works I have a brand new passenger side front contisport2.

So, I cannot work out whether I should just bite the bullet and replace all 4 tyres with Goodyear f1 asymetricals or should I just replace the rear two with contisport2s and get the balancing and tracking checked at the front? The latter option is alot cheaper but it might not sort the problem from the Front Right wheel.. arghgh.

If I had money to burn I would replace all 4 with f1s and get my tracking checked and be done with it but I don't so have been umming and arring what to do for a while now.

Hey folks, found my way here as I'm in the market for 4 new tyres for my MkV and wondered what people were buying and whether Eagle F1 Asym's were still considered a good buy.

Didn't see many recent posts, so figured as I already have a set on my car, I'd bite the bullet and stick with what I know. That's when it got tricky...

My local fitter said they're extremely rare and 'Excellence' or 'Efficient Grip' are comparable models.

Wasn't happy with this answer, so I called Goodyear where a techie advised they had NOT been discontinued and as such there is no direct replacement. Apparently a shipment is expected in May, but they didn't have a firm date. Also 'Excellence' and 'Efficient Grip' are lesser tyres and not high performance. Suggested I get some F1's on back-order.

So back to my local I go, who in turn gets word from their wholesaler that F1 Asym's are no longer made. Period.

I had a mate who used to work for Goodyear and once gave me some of their ex-staff tyre vouchers. Great for a discount, but you can only redeem them from certain places. Hi-Q in Wolves being one, so figured I'd ask them what they thought.

Hi-Q echoed Goodyear and suggested to get in touch start of May where they'd re-check stock. They also said F1 Asym's had been out of stock for at least the last 6 months.

So my thoughts are,

a) do I wait and see what May brings?

b) are there any other places which might have stock?

c) do I go with a different brand?

In the case of c), what are all the kool kids buying of not F1's? I do approx 20k per yr, predominately motorway, so low noise and longevity are top of the list.

I'm nervous at dropping cash on an alternate make/model when I already know and like the F1's.

Hey guys,

I run the Michelin PS2s on my car and they have seen 26,000km plus a track day.

Am changing then soon to the Pilot Sport 3s.

Just my Two-Penneth....

My ED30 came with Michelins and I swapped them for a set of 4 Goodyear Asyms.

At first they were very slippy and thought I'd dropped a bit of bollock, but they bedded in after around 1.5k-2K miles. They're very good and I've been reasonably happy with them but will be either going back to Michelin or try something else, the main reasons being.

1) They've not lasted anywhere near as long as my Mitchelins did they've only done about 8K.

2) The rolling resistance must be higher, where as I used to have to fill up every 330-340ish miles I now have to fill up at around the 300-310 mark, and over the year (12K miles) this works out to around £250-£300.

Yes they're good, especially in the wet, but I don't think I've noticed any difference to the Michelins.

Yes they're cheaper but not in the long run.

Comments:Seem ok, Quite grippy on the bends but they are nearly new and ive only recently got the GTi. one complaint i do have is Road Noise....My last car had 18"s with Toyo Proxies which were fantastic and i hear great things about Eagle F1's.
