sjmmarsh
What is the biggest range you have had on your trip computer - I regularly get a range of 700miles shown on fill-up, but normally get at most 600miles before I fill up after the low fuel warning comes on. Today it came on when I was on the M6/A14, and as there aren't too many stations on the bit I was on, went into 'Economy mode' driving - not too hard as the traffic was pretty heavy. I filled up with 15 miles range left. Turned the ignition on and it told me the range was 910 miles I must have been driving too slowly.... What is the biggest range anyone has seen on the A8? grdunn123
You must have a diesel??? How much did it cost to fill up? I've only had my 4.2 QS for a month and I've never filled it up!
Atomic
[ QUOTE ] I've only had my 4.2 QS for a month and I've never filled it up! [/ QUOTE ] Kinda depends on your mileage doesnt it? I recon I fillup my car once every 5-6 weeks but all it does most weeks is take me to the station and back. As per the original post. I'm currently getting around 19-20 mpg which gets me around 280 miles per tank. On a run though I easily get 31-32 mpg (provided im not near london!) which gets me 470+ miles from a tank. Not that I let it get down to less then around 70-80 miles.

ghemmings
Get it LPG'ed! I get 18mpg on gas for normal driving (town and country roads) and 24mpg on gas on the motorway. Thats the equivalent of 40mpg and 51mpg equivalent respecively (based on 41p LPG and 89p Petrol). It runs just as well on LPG as petrol. Costs £25 to fill it with LPG and I get about 300 miles from a tank! Power and performance for the cost of a small diesel (apart from when it goes wrong!!!) Atomic
And the cost to convert?
Jony
About £1500- £2500 depending on where you go, youve got to ask yourself if you'll ever repay that in fuel savings, and from what i've seen converted cars don't sell for any more. I could be totally wrong though...
showtime
on my S8 a tank varies between 200 & 350 miles so far
A8_Tony
spence1234 has an LPG conversion on his S8, I'm pretty sure the mileage he was getting per tank(about 183) didn't warrant me getting LPG fitted to mine. I have done a trip from Cheltenham - Halifax - Bath on one tank before and was most impressed. TBH I probably get about 250/tank out of mine due to my driving style
ghemmings
It's £2000 for a quality conversion using sequential injection (much better than the single-point or multi-point systems out there). Converted cars are worth about £500 more come resale. So, based on 50% running costs, £1500 (with your resale value removed) you will need to spend £3000 on LPG before you reep the benefits. So, £3000 / 41p per litre is 7300 litres of LPG (that's 1600 gallons). Therefore 1600 gal x 18mpg on gas = 28800 miles (worst case) before it is paid off. I travel about 26k miles per year so it is worth it for me, as it has paid for itself in just over a year. We used to use my wife's mare economic car a lot more before I had LPG, but now MY car is more economic, it gets used a lot more, so saves us more. Also, you don't think about the cost of travelling anywhere because it's so cheap to run. There are a lot more garages out there selling LPG these days, but I have an account with Countrywide who charge 41p including VAT and have 24h pumps with a datakey so you can fill up any time. I am direct debited every month for the fuel I use (normally about £140 per month which does me 1500 miles). A 130 litre tank will fit in the boot of our cars, leaving as much room still as an A6 boot space in there when installed. That will get you 500 to 700 miles range from a tank from town/country driving to motorway driving (mines only 60 litres though). This is the third LPG car we have owned and will never look back. Looking forward to having a 2001/2002 S8 converted in the spring (when I find a nice one)!!.
PsYcHe
My 98 4.2 QS will give me around 380 from a tank doing about 150 motorway miles and 230 'town' miles. Did a run to London back in the summer and cruising on the motorway at about 75 with the cruise on I was getting just shy of 600 miles for the tank. Worst I had was 200 miles not long after I got the car just horsing round the country roads.. What a hoot

edo
D3 4.2 Petrol. I get about 350 miles from a tank. With mostly A/B roads since I got the car I am averaging just over 22mpg. On a long mostly "legal" motorway run I can get 27mpg.
rothwell
I managed to get only 260 miles out of a tank on the way through Germany a while back. But I also managed to get from 30 mins outside Calais all the way to Interlaken (Swiss) on a single tank which was 520 miles. In my aging A8 4.2. sjmmarsh
[ QUOTE ] You must have a diesel??? How much did it cost to fill up? [/ QUOTE ] Yes - a 3.0 diesel. It took 85litres - just over £76.... I normally fill up every couple of weeks, but the last one only lasted a week. Steve
grdunn123
I know the superunleaded topic comes up regularly but has anyone tried the BP 28 extra mile for a tankful thing? does Tescos 99 ron stuff or Shell V Power give anyone extra miles over normal unleaded? Audi actually recommends 98 RON for the 4.2's doesn't it?
rob77
they recomend 98 ron on my S8, i always use shell v power but as for better fuel economy it goes to quick to notice
johnss8
IMO these cars are not about economy just 4200 cc's of V8 power and watching it drink the V power fuel puts a big smile on my face
rob77
its there to use not to save slurp it up ive used up a full tank before just pi**ing about so as to how many miles do i get out of a full tank i would say about 6 hours http://www.tyresmoke.net/gallery/album365
grdunn123
nearest Shell garage just closed! I'm in H'pool 2 days a week now though I'll get some there...see if there's any difference between it and Tesco's Superunleaded...
crasher
Biggest range i had showing once was 500 miles. I fill up every 2 - 3 days as thats how long it takes me to blow a tankfull. Despite the range showing 400 - 450 i tend to get nearer to 380 per tank, and most of that is on the motorway.
rob77
mind how you go they are very good in Hartlepool at stealing things off your car while your still moving
nikw
If I've driven really gently before filling up I can sometimes get mine to show 630 miles. More usually it shows 500-550 and I actually get 410-440 before the remaining range shows zero. Depressingly, every time I've checked it the DIS average is a couple of MPGs optimistic but I try not to think about that
Botang
My range normally shows about 250 Mind you I checked my MPG the other day and it said 14.
Ska
That really pees me off as when I feel like a bit of adventurous driving I get 14.9mpg out of my V6; yes I know I should have bought a 4.2 in the first place Anyways if I keep my right foot from assaulting the go go pedal I've seen 720miles range motorway stuff of course
