The colour of the Megane isn't so garish against the different background colours in picture 4... grin.gif

Nice pics, Sven.

Thanks! Yeah, that's what I was aiming for... grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

I hated the color, and wanted a silver one WITH wheelcovers, but the Avis chick kept that one for herself, claiming it was 'unavailable'... smashfreakB.gif

Anyway, we baptised it 'Limon de la Cinquoporte" and had quite some fun with the little thing. It really aint that bad... grin.gif

Thanks Sven.

I shoot digital (only a Sony DSC) onto a 128Mb memory stick so I can throw away the 98% of pictures that don't work out! wink.gif

The sunset one was just a shot I took without planning it, I had been taking pictures that day & had the camera in my pocket. It's taken outside my company's nuclear bunker (honestly!) where I'd been on an inspection visit. Full set of RS 6 pictures are here.

The ferry is one of the NYC Waterways ferries from lower Manahattan to New Jersey. More NYC pics here. There's one in particular I'm not proud of, but that's mainly because it's one of me taken by somebody else while I'm feeling very hung over and seasick on the same ferry...

You shoot good Chris, while doing the Audi the sun was in a difficult angle as well I think. Often the best light is in the morning or the late afternoon. Contrary to popular belief, a lot of sun is NOT that good...

I took the liberty of adjusting a few things on one of the pics. I may have overdone it a bit, not sure if you'll like it, but it gives you an idea of what's possible.

Hmm, you know actually editing the photo never really occured to me, despite always pulling everything into Paint Shop Pro to check before publishing. I think I uploaded those using my PC at work, the monitor was bit old & faded (replaced now). I should get my new Philips Brilliance monitor at home colour calibrated and have a look at the pictures on there I guess.

What filter was that you applied - just a contrast adjust?

I agree, good job too because I have one on order. EEK2.GIF

Not a lowly hire spec with no wheel trims, but top of the range Privilege with nice shiny alloys grin.gif

Cool! It pleasantly surprised me actually! First days they gave me a 'classic' (quite contrary to my order), and I hated that. But when I changed it for the new Megane I was quite chuffed with it. Electric everything (but seats), auto climate control, lots and lots of neat storage bins everywhere (learn from that Audi!) and good seats and a pleasant dash. Feels good too, a bit strange but nice! I wonder though how this rubber-like material cleans and keeps...

We had the 1.6, and that was quite well spirited. I'm sure the bigger engines will be even more interesting...

What are the specs of yours? smile.gif

Depends indeed on the monitor. On my notebook it looks okay now, though a bit blue-ish maybe (esp. on the windows).

I did it rather quick, so with some TLC you can get more out of it.

I used Adobe Photoshop and started with the color, levels and contrast, and I fiddled a bit with the 'selective colour' option, and finally added the 'unsharp mask' and tweaked that a bit.

I think it's a bit more vivid, though you might want a little less colour maybe if you think it's too unnatural.

Sven....

Checked out those sites....some nice stuff....see what you mean about the 'natural' approach blush.gifshocked.gifcool.gif

Agree with you about the digital...Don't yet have a digi cam but will get one eventually...even if just for snapshots! There can also be good use for one to test the lighting conditions before using film...in the same way you would use a Polaroid.

Didn't realise Canon had released another digi SLR...will check it out.

On the Magazine work....can't say just now but top UK mag. I recently did a successful trial for them and have been promised some work for feature car shoots.

Your in the NL? .... Maybe a long shot but have you heard of a guy called Frank Denker? Him and his car were pretty famous over there in Amsterdam. He had the fastest road Calibra in Europe (as far as we were aware). 3.2 Supercharged V6 with Nitrous. It was mindblowing! He acheived his goal of tuning it to break the magical speed of 300km/h. Think they clocked 312km/h on the German Autobahn. shocked.gifshocked.gifshocked.gifnotworthy.gif

I just checked out your pictures. Really nice work. I noticed as some others did that you shoot at a tilted angle this has some pros and cons to the technique. Pros: Gives the subject a unique look and the viewer a unique way of looking at a possibly mundane subject.(Not that cars are mundane at all as I grew up around them) Cons: If you take every shot using this type of technique the technique looses it's punch and becomes boring.

Try to create a mix of shots from all different angles. I'm sure that you have already thought of this as I really don't mean to sound too criticle. Try mxing in some black and white pics and some sepia tone shots this makes for a dramtic effect. You can easily do this using Photoshop. Even some labs will do this for you if they are capable of scanning your negs first. Last but not least make sure you charge enough for your time as that is valuable.

I like the shot where the driver's head is poking out, the one where the driver has sunglasses on. You made the subject interesting to look at nice job. The portraits are nice as well, nice lighting. I've been shooting weddings for about 15 years nows in the states and you have to have the right personality to do them. Not everyone can deal with the situation as you know not all weddings go as planned and you have to be able to think on your feet.

I shoot in a medium square format and with film. I have a digital camera that I use for my own small quick stuff but for the weddings I stick to old fashion film. I know I'm a dinosaur.I haven't shot 35mm in a while but will be pulling the old minolta out for my next vacation as I still want to shoot film but not lug my huge medium format camera around. My websit is www.candidcasualsphotography.com it has to be updated with some new pics.I'm working on that now for next season. The nice thing about shooting cars is that you can always reshoot if needed while a wedding is a whole different animal. Goodluck with the car shooting business it's a great idea and I'm sure you can make a boatload of money if you market yourself well. cool.gif Talk to ya soon and take care.

Hi Kim....

Thanks for your reply. Just to clarify, the gallery on my website is very basic and limited at the moment. It's being drastically changed and will include a wider range of what I do.

I like the idea of mono/sepia. However, I'm using film and don't use Photoshop so it's not been part of the service so far. It is something I have considered and will look at ways of introducing some mono shots.

Weddings....It's hard for me to judge on just one effort....but I didn't enjoy the hassles of organising so many people. Think there has to be a balance of patience and swift work!

I had a look at your site and was impressed. I like the approach you have to the occasion...there seems to be a 'fun' theme throughout. The people appear to be enjoying their day...and that's what it's all about. Well done. I'll keep an eye on the site for updates.

Once again, thanks for your comments.

Cheers, beerchug.gif

Hi Stephen,

I had a look at your site and the photos are nice, but to be honest there was nothing there that looked like something I couldn't have snapped on my own.

I think if you want to provide a professional service you need to be able to get results that no one else can.

One example here, this is a fantastic shot. Apparently the photo was taken in pitch black in the woods, but with the camera on a tripod and a 1 minute exposure time. Then a flash gun was set off at different points around the car during the minute and finaly one set off inside the car.

The result is a truely fantastic photo, something I could never acheive myself, and something very special that people would be prepared to pay for perhaps.

[/ QUOTE ]

Hi Ari...

Thanks for your comments.

I take on board what you are saying. I agree it is important to give people something different, something they can't do on their own.

However, I think I am already offering such a service. I have to point out that whilst you, as I assume being an able photographer?, may have the kit and ability to take those kind of shots, but 99% of others won't.

I agree the photo you attached is excellent, but if you read the text on my site I am aiming to provide people who love their cars, with a collection of around 60 large photos in an album, covering every aspect of the vehicle from various static exterior shots, to movement shots, interior/engine/driver with car etc. etc.

I know the sample you used was to demonstrate a point, but shot's like the one you provided would take so much preparation, so much trial and error, not to mention a great deal of extra photographic kit, just for one shot, that it would not be economical. I am trying to keep my prices reasonable and this sort of work would force it out of the reach of most.

Once again, I have to mention that the small gallery on my site is temporary. A lot more will follow this week, displaying a wider range.

Anyway, I enjoyed the pics you uploaded! As someone else mentioned, can't believe the calm, almost bored expression on the drivers face with the sideways Audi!! smile.gif

Cheers, beerchug.gif

That is an exceptionally good photo Ari thanks for sharing how it was made with us, very interesting, and delivered in a way that won't make Stephen think your putting his work down, constructive critisism is always hard to deliver.

Stephen, keep up the good work, you're obviously very talented with the camera and I hope to see some nice Audis on your site soon.

Gaunty

Erm... Ming Blue? confused.gif That was my first thought anyway...

@ SMc: I don't know this Frank Denker I'm afraid, but his car sounds impressive - or insane - depending how you look at it... grin.gif

If y'r interested, check Canon Digital Rebel

@ ChrisS8: I looked at the NY pics too now, very cool trip you made there... Nice plane, good food by the looks of it, and a visit to NY as a bonus. Not too shabby... cool.gif

Funny thing, I looked at the menu and chose the same you did, so I noticed in the following pics. grin.gif

Oh and I love the rainy night shots! Poster material! cool.gif

ChrisS8,

I really like the street photo! It's difficult to get night shots exposed correctly. The steam from the manhole cover is a nice touch. Thankyou for the earlier comment about my work. I believe we are our own worst critic. I rarely see a photo that I've taken that I actually like. I always tell myself that I can do better. I forget that other people see my work in a whole different light. Thanks again and take care.

Hey Stephen,

Thanks so much for the nice comment about my pics. As I've said before I'm my own worst critic. I see my photographs all the time and don't think anything of them. It's nice to hear an objective comment. I'll be adding new pictures soon as some of the pics on my site are quite old. Time for a new look to the pics and the site. Thanks again and take care.

I count four flashlights, meaning like 4 x SpeedLite 550EX = €2000,- plus a few tripods for camera and flash, which will get you close to €3000,- if not over... (OUCH!)

[/ QUOTE ]

Nope, you can do it with just one flash. Ari's text implies this in fact. With a minute long exposure, you can walk around the frame and set the same flash off several times. Because the exposure is so long, and you yourself are never illuminated, you dont appear on the result.

You can even put coloured get filters over the different flashes, so that the interior comes out red for example.

This guy is well known for taking that to extremes http://www.lostamerica.com/lostframe.html

See the stuff on gallery 1 for alot of cool cars.
