BPT
Ok chaps, here's one for you. Occasionally (I mean it's only happened 3 or 4 times in a year) I hear 4 distinct beeps when I turn the ignition key. The sound comes from the nearside rear, within the boot space so possibly from the sub or CD changer. It's not a big issue, just wondered what it was! Any ideas? Booster
I think its to let you know that the back up battery for your alarm is knackered. Seems to ring a bell from other posts on here.
BPT
Ok, thanks Booster, that's interesting. I'd better investigate further....
kite
This is the alarm back up battery. Common on the TT. A few people have opened the alarm and chaged the battery. I'll go look for the thread.... back in a min..

Chrisg
yep been there - well her indoors has, interestingly the various beeps all stopped after we ( actually I )fitted a new main battery.
BPT
Thanks guys. Useful thread, thanks Kite. Does anyone know exactly where the alarm sounder is in the S3? The beeping sounds like it's coming from the CD Changer / Sub side of the boot space, but I'm dreading having to take all of that out just to find the alarm. Any ideas? This is when a Haynes manual would come in handy. Why don't they do one for the S3? Is there an alternative manual out there? Thanks again! BPT
Oh by the way, I changed the main car battery about 6 months ago, so I doubt that needs doing again. I think this 'beeping' only occurs when its really cold, and I know batteries lose some of their capacity in cold conditions.
kite
Why not set off the alarm and then go snooping round the car.
iceman2002_uk
i believe the alarm siren is located behind one of the front wheel arch liners!!!
Paul
nope, 8L A3/S3 and TT all have them in the rear passenger quarter, behind/below Cd changer rear light cluster areas, well hidden.
s3geezer
Audi told me I need a new siren unit as the things are sealed. My S3 started the beep thing but now I've seen this thread, it has reminded me that it has not done it for atleast 3-4 months. It had been doing it though on and off for about 2 months prior though. Now that we're in the middle of Winter I would have thought it would be beeping more but it hasn't for ages. It's a strange one!!!!
