fatcat
I'm fed up dragging the Dyson out every weekend and cleaning the ol' gal, does anyone have a half decent hand held car vacuum cleaner that actually does the job. I'm short listing the mains operated 'Red Devil' - with attachments 'for all those littel crevices' Any recommendations !
Sven
IMHO they don't exist! (esp. the ones on 12v that is) I have never seen one that does the job halfway decent, regardless what they promise you. There's simply not enough power to give good suction. I'd like to be proven wrong, because it would really be practical to have a GOOD one, but so far I'd say don't waste y'r money on it. If you want something cordless for a quick cleaning, get on of those rechargeable crumb thingy’s (the strongest one you can find!). That'll do a better job - on a not too dirty car - than a 12v car vacuum cleaner, and the missus can use it in the house as well. Otherwise, for a good vacuum cleaner you'll need a cord and plenty of watts!
Mo-S3
The cordless and 12v ones are pathetic in the job they try to set out to do. Present them with a small piece of gravel and they cant even suck that up right. Best to buy a small electric one for about 60 quid and use that. Much better results. And if u dont like having to plug the mains cable in the house then u could always wire in a 12v-240v invertor in ur car !!

[/ QUOTE ] Hmm, plus a set of extra batteries... I used them a lot on boats, and they are very practical there (if you 'live' aboard). But they also use power themselves, and if you use a lot of power you need traction batteries apart from y'r start battery. Might be a bit over the top for vacuuming...
