We had ours done at Aylesbury Audi last year at 80,000 (2.5 TDi) and it was less than £500. This didn't include a service though, so are the prices you've been quoted inclusive of a big service too? thehappyone Posted January 31, 2007 Report Share Posted January 31, 2007 Bugger, Stealer has just charged me £900 to change cambelt. Even though it was changed at 86,000miles and the car has just passed 106,000. The thing is it went in because it was making a funny noise when starting from cold, thats what they thought it was, turns out that they now think its the engine head and the new part is £1300. So i'm stuck the cambelt (even though i didn't need it) and i've still got the noise. It's not a particularly difficult job, but one that is extremely expensive if it goes wrong. Therefore best not to take chances! drahrs Posted February 19, 2007 Report Share Posted February 19, 2007 I have only done about 38k miles and it is due for a service in about 2 months. the car is on a 52 plate so would you recomend getting the cam belt changed as it is no where near the 120k suggested in other posts. Perhaps I should see what they say when I book it in, I have only had the car for 6 months and I wouldnt of dreamed about getting the Cam belt done now - My fiesta used to be every 5 years or 70k miles. TheSaint Posted February 19, 2007 Report Share Posted February 19, 2007 Drahrs, It's not necessarily the mileage that is the issue, but the age of the car - four years is about right to be thinking about a cambelt change, although you are a tad on the early side. The thing with Cambelts is that they are made of a rubber compound that disintegrates over time and use which is why many manufacturers are going back to the old chain-belts which used to be considered noisy but get changed at much wider apart intervals. Your car has low mileage for the year, so don't simply judge whether it needs a change based on that alone. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I will put it in for the service and if they want to change it, I will book it in at a later date (after I phone around for a quote) as I cant afford £500 - £800 just for that then a service on top. Wrax Posted February 20, 2007 Report Share Posted February 20, 2007 Well just to add to my 10 cents... been meaning to get mine done for ages... at a 100K now on a 2001 Service + cam belt = £617 inc vat from stealer Service + cam belt = £616 inc vat from specialist So its booked in now at the dealer... will get a better courtesy car and its nearer to me.
