Where I work we get a lot of people wingeing when the screen cracks because it was left to late/poor repair. As above most repairs are free so I would go that route. DaddyDub Posted January 30, 2007 Report Share Posted January 30, 2007 I had Autoglass do a fill on a tiny chip on My Polo and the job was sh*t. The mark was still there (looked worse than before). Ian_C Posted February 6, 2007 Report Share Posted February 6, 2007 The screen doesn't need to be cracked for you to be allowed a full replacement! Hudson, a 'clean' 2mm chip with no cracks is possibly too small to repair, for the resin risks being pulled back out by the wipers. Pop into your local branch and let one of the techies have a quick look. 2-12 mm chips are the ideal size as the resin can grip into the screen. Repairs will never be perfect as original glass: The idea is to give the surface a smooth seal, stopping moisture getting in, stopping freeze thaw which causes the screen to crack. Golfer Posted February 7, 2007 Report Share Posted February 7, 2007 I've got some tiny scratchs on my windscreen,waiting for a decision by Autoglass as to how/if they will do something, I dont want the screen replaced if I can get away with it. Got these using one of those silicon blades!!!, must wash screen off FIRST otherwise it picks up grit and well you know the rest........... Ian_C Posted February 8, 2007 Report Share Posted February 8, 2007 Sadly the only way to completely remove a scratch is to replace the screen. Bosch wipers are around £18 a pair from Autoglass.
